Milwaukee rapper talks about his expanding career.Born Christopher Smith, local rapper C. Smith likes to keep it simple.
The 32-year-old emcee doesn't use a fancy moniker - his first initial and last name suffice - and he couldn't care less about trying to present himself as anything more than who he has always been: a mouthpiece for Milwaukee's inner city.
A native of Tennessee and a fixture in Milwaukee's hip-hop scene for years, C. Smith prides himself on being as a versatile a lyricist as possible.
I try to be universal," he says, "although I always speak from the street point of view."
Smith recently put out a new single and video, and his full-length album is slated for release sometime in July.
Back story: I was born in Tennessee and raised in Milwaukee. I was a hip-hop junkie at a young age. I grew up listening to rappers like Rakim, EPMD, Easy-E, Too $hort, 2Pac and Scarface and started writing music at age 15. I continue to strive for my dream of being a successful hip-hop artist.
Latest project: I have a new single and video, "Whips Ride By," featuring rappers Coo Coo Cal and Ceven, out right now. I'm releasing my next single "In My City," this summer, along with the full-length album, "Street Toolz Vol. 2: Apply Pressure."
Quote or saying you live by: Make money, not excuses.
Sell yourself in 30 words or less: I'm a strong-minded individual who believes nothing can stop me but me.
