It started as an experiment in March of 2000, in a small 1 bedroom apartment in New Jersey, a video game designer that had stumbled across a demo copy of Acid Pro 1.0. Curiosity lent a hand and soon enough music was being made on a daily basis using the provided loops that came with the demo. 6 songs were written in 3 weeks, and a strong fascination with DIY music composition using computers, electronics and other gadgets gave the world "Boba Fett" in June of 2000. Boba Fett was released FREE to the world and was put on over 100 music and mp3 sites on the WWW. 3 of the 15 songs started popping up on dance charts in Europe. Including the song "Maya" which was one of the albums highlights telling the story through music (no lyrics) of a love that never could be by using mellow beats and jazz piano with samples from the movie "City Of Angels" Boba Fett would prove well for the project, the CD was downloaded 50,000 times in 4 months, to date over 200,000 downloads of Boba Fett have been made around the world, this would only be one small part in a larger chapter for the project..... In 2001 another advance in the projects sound was released with Reaktor. Using more unconventional methods of creating sound and playing more with simple soundscapes that were layered, Reaktor drifted towards Jazz and light fusion sounds as well as techno and drum and bass. It was a period of growth for the project. It also featured a cover that was almost prophetic, for a month later an attack on US soil would happen and the man behind it would also be one of the men that graced the cover...Osama Bin Laden. Reaktor was the first cd sold under the project name with no distribution and no retail outlet Reaktor sold in very small numbers and is what's been called in house as "the cd that never got a chance" some classic songs grace that album like "Made for Machine", "Stratosphere" and "Angel in her eyes" the last song used beats with 4 different tempos to create an offbeat sound that had a very smooth groove to it. Reaktor is distributed by CD BABY.com as of April 1st 2006. It would be another 2 years (2003) before any more music was made with the project. This is only a test like every cd prior to it was released on August 12th. It would be a sample of what was in store for those that still remained fans of the music. T.O.A.T. as its usually called had a smooth LoFi sound and textures that has forever changed the landscape of Pimp X music. The limited edition Mini Cd had 2 trip out videos included and 3 screensavers. The cd would be re-released in 2005 without the additional features, making the original 2000....collector’s items. Only a year later would PURE be released, a richer, fuller sound with more Jazz and LoFi influence also saw the way of more drum and bass and even a throwback to the odd soundscapes from the Boba Fett era with Temple of the Dalilala. It would be the projects best release to date with strong songs like Failure, Replicator, Midnight on the P.C.H., Soho Stroll and Teardrops. The cd's release saw the project take a different turn, first with landing 5 songs on the INFECTED videogame for the Sony Playstation Portable with the likes of other great artists like Junkie XL, Fear Factory and Slipknot. Also in the works was a remix of a song by heavy metal icons Fear Factory as well as working on a sound track for a yet unnamed Xbox 360 project, another PSP title and a potential movie soundtrack. 2005 / 2006 looked to be in Pimp X's favor. In 2007 Pimp X released ICONIC, the soundscape has changed once again, and new things are being tried out like adding vocals and mixing Latin and jazz with drum and bass LoFi. The first single "Serve Chilled" fuses LoFi with Drum and Bass with some influence from India in the form of Hindi. The song was also featured on the INFECTED videogame soundtrack. The one thing that you can always count on with a Pimp X cd is that there will always be an evolution in the sound; there will also always be a continuation of what everyone loved the most. As it was said when the project was started, "It's about the music, not the people or the persona behind it, the music needs to speak to everyone...and when it does...its magical" Now in 2008, Pimp X has what most call in the industry a "best of" album in COLLECTIVE. While some people look at it as a cheap way for known and established bands to make a buck. We looked at it as a a way to turn people who have never heard the music...on to it without having to drop a bunch of cash. Its the best that Pimp X as a project put out, and we think the songs will speak for themselves. As for 2009 and beyond? Rumors all over the web say its Pimp X's last cd the now named DOSED will be the last as a project. What will come next? Honestly...it’s right there on the navigation bar...ERTHKULT is coming.
