“RASE are a mainstream indie guitar band, with great catchy melodies, clever lyrics, punchy riffs and all the energy and feeling you need to really believe in a band!” Take all the energy and brightness of The Kooks, add some sweeping melodies you wouldn’t be surprised to hear Coldplay offer up, pin it down with the punchy guitar riffs, wit and confidence of the Arctic Monkeys and you would be on the right track to describe the ‘rase’ sound. This exciting indie guitar band are from Birmingham, England, and are set to make a real splash with their latest eponymously titled EP. As a four piece they pack a real punch with a superb full sound that feeds the listeners ears with catchy melodies at every turn. Backed up by clever and often poignant lyrics, their songs have a depth that extends beyond the usual superficial content often heard in the charts. Their emotive vocal sound (supplied by Dan Greenaway), is backed up with harmonies in all the right places which draws attention to the thought provoking lyrics. Melodic bass lines roll and groove beneath, locked into tight, innovative drum beats. This solid rhythm section of Giles Smith on bass and Matt Yates on drums allow the two guitarists, Jay Goodison and Dan Greenaway to weave licks and riffs into the listeners heads, with enough grit in the guitars to rock to without hiding the detail in a ‘wall of sound’. Such an array of influences flavour the ‘rase’ sound that it has made for a unique blend, with four minds soaking up all the great music around them like a sponge, to be squeezed back out as something that is hard to pigeon hole. Their latest EP is testament to the above, showing the range and diversity all great bands should offer whilst maintaining a distinctive sound throughout. If you like energy and feeling in music, meaning in lyrics and melody all the way, then ‘rase’ could just be the band you wished you’d already found! Don’t waste anymore time, their latest EP is only a click of a mouse away!
