Rebel 81 is the product of two musicians from very different places, coming together to re-create a classic, yet unforgettable sound. Raised on a steady diet of Metallica and AC/DC, guitarist Allen Marcum, who started learning his instrument at the age of 8, began playing in cover bands throughout his teens. After playing the many songs he loved, from such legendary bands for so long, he decided it was time to finally sit down, and write his own material. With only a cheap 4-track recorder, his guitar, and a loopy drum machine, he sat out to write the riffs, that would later become the foundation for what is now known as Rebel 81. After posting some demos of such tunes as "Until The End" and "Hunger", on various internet sites, people began to pay attention to his powerful, yet melodic sound, and see the real potintial that lay within his song stucture. After several months had past, Allen stumbled upon what he thought was one of the best indie rock bands he had ever heard... Iron Cross. Thier sound was modern metal, with healthy amounts of Black Sabbath and Deep Purple thrown in just for good measure. After listening to several tracks, Allen contacted Iron Cross frontman Z.Z. Rage and the two of them began talking about working on music together. Allen invested in more "professional" studio equipment, and began re-recording the music for "Until The End". After the music had been recorded, he sent the tracks to Z.Z. Rage who began working on lyrics for the tune, and later cut the vocal tracks. With that, Rebel 81, a new musical project was born. After the writing and recording sessions had wraped up for what was to become the debut album, the duo was contacted by Cashcrop Records, an indie lable located in New Mexico. After many e-mails and disscusions with Cashcrop manegment, Rebel 81 was signed, and promotion for the album took off. The album was released on October 31st, 2005. The duo was running strong, with a record lable, a healthy internet fan base, and a new album. A year after the release of the debut self-titled album, the duo began writing the follow-up, entitled, "Season In Hell". All was going well until guitarist Allen Marcum was informed by Cashcrop management that the lable was loosing money, and could no longer continue to support it's roster of artists. Such artists as Feaver Dream, and Cradle. The duo continued recording the new album, and independently released "Season In Hell" on March 23rd, 2007. To date, Rebel 81 is still going strong, and the duo has started working on a new album, for release sometime early 2009.
