Since it's inception in mid 2005, Second Thief has consistently gone above and beyond the normal expectations of a hardcore band: surviving everything thrown their way and making a name for themselves both at home and across the country. Even the bands hometown of Jacksonville, Florida recognizes it, saying "The band has now completed several national tours....""Second Thief is turning heads all over the country."
Yep, that about covers it. Not with a #1 hardcore radio hit from the band's previous full length CD "Threshold", but with the release of the bands most accomplished, mature and diverse collection of songs to date, Second Thief is ready to show what they are made of. "Prelude ep" boasts 3 meticulously crafted songs and a music video to boot. Pick it up on iTunes today and see for yourself...

"Prelude" review by Indie Vision Music When I was younger, I had this friend that loved to perform random acts of e-brake. So you always had to be extremely careful when he was in your car because throughout the winter months when the roads were icy, he would make it a habit to reach over and pull the emergency brake at various times while you were driving. That’s a lot like Second Thief… spontaneous and unpredictable.
Second Thief is a 4-piece out of Jacksonville, Florida that plays what is typically referred to these days as deathcore. Breakneck guitars over driving blast-beat drums with some of the craziest vocals I’ve heard in a while. This guy must gargle a mixture of boric acid and the tears of small children. It’s practiced chaos. And look, Mikey likes it.
Right out of the gate you’ll find a whole to like about “Prelude” if you’re any kinda fan of this style of music. The first track starts with a bang, well actually a scream, and the EP doesn’t let up until it’s through. Well, that’s not entirely accurate. There is a moment right at the beginning of the last track where you’ll hear about 7 seconds of soft ivory. But just when you’re thinking “Ballad?!”… bam!! away they go again.
If you picked up the full-length release “Threshold” that they put out early last year or either of their two previous EPs, you’re probably a fan… and are probably ready for more of the same. Which is what you get with “Prelude”. Second Thief has a sound that’s similar to I Built The Cross, At The Throne Of Judgment, and A Mirror Of Dead Faces. High octane deathcore that pounds out of the speakers and fills the room.
Lyrically, Second Thief doesn’t pull any punches. This is all about laying it on the line and reaching the lost with the gospel. Consider the EP opener, “Hold Your Breath”, which says, “so much prayer is wasted on speaking / instead of listening / if you never take action / don’t be surprised when nothing happens / we waste so much life on waiting / instead of sparking reaction / it’s for your own good that you learn to live by experience / where will you run when your whole world comes caving in? / woah! / take a breath, hold it in, now run / where will you run when your whole world comes caving in? / who will you turn to when you know you can’t save yourself? / there is hope if you look / there is truth / it’s right in front of you”
Or how about “Such A Waste”, a worshipful song that says, “this is a new day / a new beginning to my life / I turn my back on my ways / Lord, give me the strength to meditate on Your word and to live for Your glory / remove me these pieces that remove me from You / give me the words to say to this dying generation and the means to see this through / let them see Your love / let them see Your truth / let my screams be heard, Jesus”.
I e-mailed the band a couple of questions about their ministry focus. Here’s part of the response: “…as a band, we want to mix our passion for ministry with heavy music that hopefully will stand out in some way amidst the thousands of heavy bands around today… we believe in being a Christian band, not being Christian’s in a band. Everything we do is a legitimate attempt in reaching every person we come in contact with for Christ.”
The standout track was “Monument” which is just a killer song all the way around. And was that a deathcore tambourine? Nice.
Overall: Second Thief’s “Prelude” EP is short but sweet and worth a listen. Check it out and release your inner metal head.

Interview with BlindCore Art e-zine by Blindcore Art Second Thief are rockin' it out on the Lock n Load Tour as of late, but I encouarge all you myspace fans to check out their page right now! These dudes have a magnificent love for Jesus Christ, music, and Pokemon Silver. Here's the interview we conducted with them.
1. How did Second Thief come together? Any relations from previous musical endeavors?
The current lineup is not the original lineup for Second Thief, the only original member is our singer, Perry, and our bassist, Justin. Matthew and myself (Brandon) joined the band much later through various means. Matt is also the only one that has been in a band before Second Thief!
2. Second Thief’s music embraces hardcore-tinged metal with effective hooks, breakdowns, and melancholic moments. The Christian music industry sometimes struggles with the presence of metal. Still, some Christian’s call it the “Devil’s Music”. Does Second Thief get involved with this controversy? Why did you choose metal as a music tool for worship?
Here's a fun fact: The band actually didn't start as a metal band. I actually learned the other day that the band started out as rap-core! :) But speaking of the Christian controversy, here's a story. We are currently on tour, and at a show in Nebraska, we played a church festival with a mix of 55+ age people and 9-15 year old kids. We were very skeptical about the response to our music, but in the end, the show turned out great, although a good amount of the older crowd had left by our set time. The young kids were rockin' up there with us! I think that's about the same as the industry of Christian metal. It's becoming more and more accepted everyday, but We sometimes get flack for playing heavy music. However, as soon as they get to know us, they will see our hearts and that we have a heart for worship! Metal is just aggressive and passionate, the same way we feel about our God....
3. What is the meaning behind the name “Second Thief”?
When Christ was crucified on the cross, there were two thieves crucified on either side of him, the first thief cursed Jesus and denied he was God, the second repented and accepted Jesus' divinity. We are the second thief!
4. Name some of Second Thief’s musical influences. Any guilty listening pleasures (i.e. Family Force 5, Cobra Starship, Soulja Boy)?
Believe it or not, we don't listen to too much metal! My main influences are Rammstein, Skillet, and anything else I feel is rockin' at the time of writing!
Guilty pleasures? Anything happy-pappy techno like Basshunter, Alina, and Cascada. :)
5. Describe a typical Second Thief live show. Any signature moves or tactics on stage?
We just try to have a steady level of energy, and play well of course! I tell lame jokes.... We just have fun, whatever it takes!
6. What role has Jesus Christ played in Second Thief’s musical experience?
He is everything...Everything we do is a legitimate attempt to reach every person that hears our music for Jesus Christ, whether that be from the lyrics, a live show, or this interview.
7. If Second Thief was stranded on an island for 365 days, name 3 absolute necessities that would be of everyday use on the island.
1. Gameboy Color
2. Pokemon Silver
8. Are there any tours, EPs, LPs, or other exciting events on the horizon for this band?
We are right in the middle of the Locked & Loaded Tour right now, and when we get home, the next ep called "Prelude" will be released, with a string of CD release shows across the south. All details will be posted as we get them, but you can hear a song off of the ep on our myspace page!
9. Has Second Thief witnessed any spiritual miracles or religious conversions in the lives of fans, band mates, or otherwise?
When Perry was 7, his dog was crushed by a chair and his neck bone was poking from his neck. His parents rushed to lay hands on the dog and after prayer, Perry saw the neck bone retracting into the dogs body, and the dog started running around like nothing had happened.I'd say that's a miracle!
10. Any words of wisdom or advice for fans of Second Thief?
We love talking to everyone! Talk to us on aim whenever we're on... sn: secondthiefband. Stay updated on the release of the new ep, we can't wait to hear what you think! God bless you guys, we are grateful for you! Thanks for this interview!
