About the Artist
Shelby Dressel was an immediate fan favorite among American Idol fans from her first audition in Orlando, FL which aired January 20, 2010. On Tuesday, February 16, 2010 "Shelby Dressel" was the No. 7-ranked search on google.com and the top search among all "American Idol" names. Google Trends listed her hotness as "volcanic" and her Website got more than 10,000 hits in less than 24 hours.
Newly off her American Idol journey and Ellen Degeneres TV appearance, Shelby’s popularity continues to grow with close to 200 friend requests daily on her facebook page, along with thousands of emails that flood her message box and personal email. Google, Yahoo and Bing with pages of search results bearing her name tell the same story. Hundreds of daily posts to her facebook wall from fans around the world boasting of her talent want to know when she’s going to release a CD.
Many have already bought her single “The End” available for download from her website, some as far away as Malaysia, Chile and Venezuela. The End is currently in rotation on 3 Florida radio stations with additional airplays from Shelby’s radio guest spots.
Shelby is answering the call from fans just penning the 4th song for her first CD she hopes to be released some time before June. Shelby’s energy and focus continues to be her music career, it is her passion. Songwriting and gearing up with rehearsals for upcoming gigs and radio guest spots is how Shelby is spending her time these days, wanting to be ready and polished for whatever comes her way or the next big break.
Shelby Kathleen Dressel was born October 25, 1990 to Gary and Kathy Dressel, in Avon Park, FL. She is one of 12 children in this blended family of musicians, with inherited musical talent from both sides. Her dad and older brother both sing and play guitar, while another brother has a band and performs on the coast of Florida. Her aunt plays piano and her maternal grandfather played piano and fiddle.
Singing in church since she was 7, Shelby’s first taste of stardom came when she won the FFA Talent Show contest in 2003 then again in 2005. From that moment on Shelby knew what she wanted to be “when she grew up.” Musically gifted, Shelby put her creativity to the test and taught herself the guitar from a book and within 2 months she was playing live in front audiences at the Colgate Country Showdown in Florida.
Shelby’s music, evidenced in both her own songs and the songs she covers, echoes the influences and essence of country music legends and traditions yet distinct and different in a sound and style that is uniquely her own. Shelby Dressel’s original songs are lyrically rooted in the best of country music traditions. She effortlessly blends these traditions with a contemporary country feel and sound then ties them all together with her “born to sing” vocals. When you hear a Shelby Dressel song or see her perform you’ll know you’re in the presence of something special. While her music might be country there’s something universal about her appeal, style and charisma.
“I definitely want a career in music, it's my passion. I've always liked country. I know that's what I want to do.”~ Shelby Dressel
