Long time featured Chicago rapper S-Preme sits down with me to introduce himself cordially to everyone out there, and to chop it up about some things he's got coming up. He covers some concepts from his upcoming mixtape titled, "The Sicktape Volume 2", which is something I'm anticipating having heard a few records from it already! He also gives an interesting perspective on what it's like to be a Chicago rapper today, what separates him from the rest, and what he focuses on while creating records! S-Preme's The Sicktape: Volume 2 debuts on the internet! The mixtape was met with major blog coverage and positive reviews. It recieved over 2000 downloads the first week it was released. On The Sicktape: Volume 2, S-Preme narrates the spikes and spirals of being an aspiring MC. Each track unveils another chapter in the protagonist’s journey thru the limelight, including some unexpected hurdles that many in the industry are all too familiar with. S-Preme premieres new record off The SickTape: Vol by ChicagoNow
You may remember "Radio" if you have seen some of S-Preme's recent shows as the Chicago MC has been performing the previously unreleased track to a live audience. Alas, you can now download the official, final version of "Radio" that will be appearing on his upcoming mixtape, The SickTape: Volume 2 - hosted by Terry Urban and sponsored by gowherehiphop.com and KevinNottingham.com. S-Preme beautifully tells a story in "Radio" about an aspiring rapper daydreaming about hearin' himself on the radio while conveying the struggles of tryin' to get that big break to propell him through. You can feel the passion behind the lyrics as S-Preme's delivery provides evidence enough that he is rapping about some true experiences in his life. He reels in listeners right away with a hook that you won't be able to get out of your head followed by a disgusting ADT punchline to kick off the first verse. MIke Posner, XV, and S-Preme Live at the Highdive in Champaign, IL by
We made it out to the Highdive in Champaign this Friday to support our friends as they took the University of Illinois by storm! The sold out show was poppin' to say the least as the Mike Posner headliner featured other up and coming notables like XV, Addison Park, and Chicago's S-Preme. Even though there was a snow storm leaving multiple cars in ditches, Posner still managed to get the place brimmin' with lovely ladies. :$ I was real excited for the event as I knew the incredible potential with the artist roster for that night. The show opened up with S-Preme who I was psyched to see perform tracks off the 'Sicktape V2' for my first time, which is something I still bump regularly! All I gotta say is highly underrated! Next up were a hot jam band called Addison Park who are becoming a favorite on the college campus scene. I enjoyed their alternative vibe as they brought a lot of energy to the people, and thus got a lot back in return. Following them was the heavy hitter out of Kansas named XV, who's been getting a huge buzz in the hip hop scene despite the odds against him. He had some great highlights as he was accompanied by Mike Posner for a duo performance of "Mirror's Edge", which was a dope rendition of a classic! On top of that he included a few pretty U of I girls from the crowd to join him on stage for an entertaining performance you can peep below

Hailing from Chicago, newcomer S-Preme's "Popular" seems to be headed in the direction of exactly that. With that infectious bubblepop beat and Midwest cadence, it's no surprise he is this week's Needle In The Haystack. Find out more about him being a self-proclaimed weirdo and how visual art inspires his music. Who is S-Preme? S-Preme is a rapper from Chicago, Illinois. I'm in a unique position to have witnessed a lot of different walks of life and so most of my stuff is just commenting on that. Before I rapped I drew and painted, then transitioned into poetry, so I feel like I come at things from a very artistic viewpoint. My main thing is emotionality in music, I just want to make songs that you can FEEL. Where did the group name come from? When I was in college, I made the tragic fashion faux pas of wearing a Dada Supreme jersey...from that day forth everyone in my dorm called me Supreme. I hated it at first but then decided to roll with it. When I eventually started rapping that seemed like an obvious name. I dropped the "U" out of the name over a really petty argument me and my roommate had about a track, and I said there's no U in Supreme. Obviously I felt dumb and dropped the "U" out of sheer stubbornness. How does it feel to be the MTV Music’s Needle In The Haystack? It feels great. It's a great opportunity and more than that it's just great to see larger platforms reaching out to help any underground or indie artists. Gives me faith that people still care about the actual people behind music. What is "Popular" about? Popular is my take on the music industry right now and what urges a lot of young musicians, rappers especially, to want to be in the field. It's about the thought of being famous, the reality of not and the mindset that you always matter. First song you remember really affecting you? Penny Lane" by The Beatles. My mom used to play it ALL day on her record player (yes a record player) and I just remember falling in love with the melody. I would stand on my tip toes (I was like 3) and try to recreate the melody on her piano. How do you describe your music? Eclectic. I really try not to limit myself at all. I'm down to TRY anything. If it's within my talent or ability, even if I have to completely learn from scratch I'm down to do it. My last project is completely different from my new one and so forth.
