Steph Macpherson began her endeavor into the world of music at an early age. Her parents enrolled her in voice lessons at the age of five; a move influenced largely by a Disney film. After the first time she saw 'The Little Mermaid', She knew she either wanted to be a singer or a Mermaid.
Casting aside her childhood dream of growing a fin, she turned to songwriting, and began pursuing music.
Her songs present fresh, catchy, melodies and harmonies, while maintaining lyrical substance. Steph draws influence from many different genres, a fact that is clearly presented in her latest six song E.P., "To You" (2009). Her song "Keeping Time", from the afore-mentioned E.P., features folk/pop melody, and backing vocals that possess a gospel-like air. "Letters", in contrast, has a more alt-country flare while maintaining a pop sensibility.
In her hometown of Victoria, B.C., Steph has opened for notable Canadian talent such as Leeroy Stagger, Greg Macpherson, Kinnie Starr, and Raising the Fawn.
She sang backing vocals on friend and fellow musician Vince Vaccaro's album, "Animals", released in 2009 by Cordova Bay Entertainment Group.
Steph has toured from the West Coast of Canada, to Montreal, and written/recorded two E.P.'s. "Shapes Only You Can Make" (2005) was recorded/produced by Ryan Hauschield, of Vancouver B.C, and the more recent, "To You" (2009), was recorded in Victoria, B.C., with friend and producer, Jason Cook.
Steph now calls Vancouver home, and has just been selected as a top 20 finalist in The Peak Performance Project 2010 (The Peak 100.5 fm, and Music B.C.), and finished 4th in the Ourstage public vote for Lilith Fair Local Talent Search 2010.
