Anthony Steele, better known by his stage name “Tha Yung One”, is a unique hip-hop artist from Baltimore, Maryland. Born July 24, 1989, his dreams to make it big in the music industry started early. By the age of nine, Anthony was writing lyrics. His uncle and older cousin were predominant motivators in his life teaching him everything they knew from an apartment building laundry room. That same year his uncle helped him write his first rap titled “If I Had a Mill”. Growing up, Anthony was also influenced by famous Rappers and Rap groups such as DMX and Wu Tang Clan. At the age of fifteen he initiated his own group with a couple of friends called “America’s Most Wanted”. “Tha Yung One” gained a lot of his exposure and his stage name through a local clothing-line he worked for known as “B-EZ” (Owned by Baltimore Native Eric R.). Since he was the “youngest one” out of all the employees, he quickly took to the name “Tha Yung One” since they were all like family to him. In 2006, Baltimore went crazy over a freestyle he recorded over the MIMS track “This is Why I’m Hot”. He also originated other freestyles such as “Boom, Let Me Get Em’, and Players Prayer”. In 2007, Anthony recorded a song with Prinse, one of the late, DJ K-swift, Next Level recording artists, called “It’s Over”. This was also the same year the tragic death of one of his close friends, also rapping partner, William Reylonds, or Lil Will occurred. Until this day, Anthony still thinks of him when he’s on stage pursuing his dream and it reminds him that he is destined to make it in this industry no matter what. In December of 2008 “Tha Yung One” took the next step in his career when he began recording his own beats. He released his first mixtape in February of 2009 titled “It Is Wat It Is”, and with over one million plays on “Myspace”, his first show was performed a month later at the “New Mark School of Excellence” in Baltimore. Since then he has had many shows held at different locations. Why Anthony a.k.a “Tha Yung One” is so exceptional, is because he is strong willed and determined, still working towards a prosperous future but, as Anthony always said “I do it for the fun, not for the funds” and with that, one of his shows even entailed him sponsoring a fundraiser to keep children off the streets. Anthony wanted to use his unique talents to create music with entertainment purposes as well as inspirational purposes. People attract to him because he makes music both males and females can relate to. Every English teacher he ever had said he was a good writer “but really”, he says “…all of his lyrics come solely from his head without any need to write down his verses. He simply just records his tracks”. Anthony, also known as “Tha Yung One”, Is still on the rise, looking for the right Label to sign with. Soon, he will be enrolled in “Howard University” to pursue a major in Music Management and Merchandizing while still making the music his fans love to hear.
