“They've got IT..." - Eddie Bo (New Orleans Funk/Soul legend) "They are about as good as it gets... " - Mark Lamarr BBC Radio 2 (U.K) "They are the tightest Funk act in the world...” - Tim Ritchie ABC Radio National (Aust) "The Bamboos are bad mother-****ers!" - Syl Johnson (Chicago Soul/Funk Legend) The Bamboos are generally acknowledged as Australia’s greatest modern Funk & Soul band. Emerging from the ‘Deep Funk’ scene of the early 2000’s, The Bamboos have since forged a unique sound of their own, combining elements of Old-School Funk, Hip Hop, Mod Rock, Psychedelic & Northern Soul. The 8-piece line-up led by guitarist Lance Ferguson and featuring the power-house vocals of Kylie Auldist are renowned for their blistering, high energy live sets which have kept people dancing all the way from Byron Bay to Bratislava. Their four studio albums and one live album for U.K label Tru Thoughts have earned them a place in the very upper echelon of the worldwide contemporary Funk & Soul scene. The Bamboos have performed at festivals including Byron Bay Blues & Roots Festival, Meredith Music Festival, Falls Festival, The West Coast Blues & Roots Festival, Golden Plains, Parklife, Days Like This, The Adelaide Festival, The Caloundra Music Festival, The Sydney Festival and Trop Fest. In Feb 2010 The Bamboos played the prestigious headline set at The St Kilda Festival to over 7000 people. The Bamboos have toured Europe and the U.K three times performing sell-out shows at esteemed venues including The Barbican & The Jazz Cafe in London and in countries including France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Slovakia, Belgium, Switzerland and Ireland. The Bamboos’ music has featured in high-rating TV shows such as ‘Greys Anatomy’ (US), ‘Ugly Betty’ (US), 'Underbelly' (AUS), Bondi Rescue (AUS) and 'Packed To The Rafters' (AUS). In 2008 they recorded music for the multi-platinum million-selling Nintendo Wii video game ‘de Blob’, with a sequel coming soon. They have performed as a backing band for international artists including Eddie Bo (US), Syl Johnson (US), Joe Bataan (US), Eddie Floyd (US), Betty Harris (US), Alice Russell & The Quantic Soul Orchestra (UK). The Bamboos were included in the Melbourne Age’s prestigious ‘Top 100’ list of influential people in Melbourne city for 2008, and in a poll by the same paper they were voted Australia’s fourth best band, just after AC/DC and ahead of high profile acts such as Jet and Empire Of The Sun. The Bamboos track ‘Can’t Help Myself’ feat. TY was nominated in the ‘Blues & Roots Work Of The Year’ category in the 2010 APRA awards. The Bamboos latest album ‘4’ has been the most successful and widely acclaimed release for the band to date. Debuting at the #1 position on the Australian iTunes R&B/Soul Chart, it has also featured on JJJ, ABC Radio National, NPR The World, BBC Radio 2 and BBC6. Sold-out album launch headline shows in Sydney and Melbourne were followed with a wildly successful tour of Europe and the U.K in June 2010. Here’s what people are saying about '4' & The Bamboos: "No doubt in my mind this is the best thing they've done! There's a big challenge facing a lot of Funk bands this year, and that is having explored most avenues of the late 60's sound where do they go from there? This album in a lot of ways shows them the way to go" - CRAIG CHARLES 'THE FUNK & SOUL SHOW' BBC6 (U.K) "They are the tightest Funk act in the world...I would have stopped giving them the album of the week spot if they didn't keep pushing the bar higher than anyone on the scene." - TIM RITCHIE ABC RADIO NATIONAL (AUST) Album Of The Week 6th April 2010 "Love the new Bamboos..." - HARRY SHEARER (KCRW, NPR Worldwide, The Simpsons, Spinal Tap) "The eleven dancefloor gems easily compete with James Brown - The Godfather of Funk and turn every club into a Finnish sauna within minutes" - PLAYBOY MAGAZINE (GERMANY) "They are about as good as it gets.. " - MARK LAMARR BBC RADIO 2 (U.K) "A first class gem...A classic is born!" - BLUES & SOUL MAGAZINE (U.K) "The new Bamboos is Huge!" - LAURENT GARNIER (FRANCE) "Beautiful examples of killer modern Funk!" - ASHLEY BEEDLE (U.K) "The Bamboos greatest attribute is the way they combine the deepest, truest love for the full range of old school funk & soul styles...yet still sound themselves very much of the here & now. You can't really overstate the value of doing the first wave innovators proudly while moving so comfortably in the post millennium." - DUSTYGROOVE (U.S)
