THE NEW LOUD - ME (SECRETS) YOU by Amplifier Magazine
New wave revivalist pop fans have a new band to fall in love with. The New Loud is a brilliant pop machine, an unstoppable beast bursting with strange, staccato rhythms guaranteed to sock you onto the dance floor and sing-a-long melodies that soar and sway like teenage hormones. Part weirdness of Sparks, part grit of Payola$, part killer dance of The Bravery and part insistent hook craftsmanship of XTC, the band's new four-song EP, Me (Secrets) You, is a short-but-very-sweet confection. “Secrets” gets things kicked off with a pogo beat and indelible chorus. “Better This Way” goes hyper on the drums slamming into an off-kilter killer melody. The New Loud - Me (Secrets) You by Pop Matters
Currently working on a full-length studio album, The New Loud releases Me (Secrets) You, a four-song EP to whet the appetites of fans and potential fans alike. Catchy and bouncy, with a plasticine sheen, everything old is new again with the group leaning towards an early ‘80s pop sound mixed with techno-lite. Thunderous drumming on the part of Radish Beet (yes, that’s his name) and each instrument heavily miked in the mix account for a modern twist that separates The New Loud from the lo-fi loving indie pack. A heaping helping of the band’s signature sound, “Secrets” is built around a 21st century indie-rock take on what could pass as the second coming of Flock of Seagulls. Kitschy in a good way, keyboardist and sometimes lead vocalist Jesica Nakles’ synthesizer buzzes happily in the background alongside ‘80s pop guitar stylings. Comparisons to early Weezer with less self-deprecation are in order thanks bottom heavy, bass-centric solos courtesy of Desiree Couillard and guitarist/lead singer Shane Olivo sounding eerily like Rivers Cuomo on the beautiful “Heartattack”. The New Loud trips into emo territory with “Heartattack” zeroing in on the majesty and pain of loneliness and the bouncy teenage lamentation of “My Hot New Moves”, a John Hughes-esque geek anthem if there ever was one. Thoroughly catchy and highlighted by snare drums that rattle like a shotgun against a trilling synth and guitar combo, the latter track assists The New Loud in shrugging off an emo labeling with an upbeat twist on two different styles, one old and one new, resulting in a promising first effort.

The New Loud were one of the best Indie bands I had heard in 2006 and since picking up their EP I haven´t stopped playing it! There´s some great tracks on ´ME (secrets) YOU´ which surprised me as Americans are usually awful when it comes to playing a good Indie tune. This four track EP opens up with a bouncy number ´Secrets´ which is a good choice for an opening number. It certainly made me feel good and I was soon singing along. I wasn´t too keen on track two ´Better This Way´. I felt that this track didn´t fit in with every other track on this EP and would probably have been better saving this one for another release. I was more than impressed with ´Heartattack´. How they worked this song with both male/female vocals along to a slow but melodic guitar sound can only be commended. For me the closing track ´My Hot New Moves´ is the best song on this EP. The guitars and Male/Female vocals are nothing short of brilliant and the keyboards fit in so well. If you love Indie music then I can´t recommend the New Loud Enough. These guys gel so well as a band and I couldn´t imagine this EP working so well with other musicians. Comes with a great production and nice sleeve too. (Fight Me) 9/10

When I first popped The New Loud's Me (Secrets) You into my CD player, I was having one of those days where even the tiniest endeavor seemed to go awry. Whether it be the zipper on my jacket breaking, my cell phone's battery dying in the middle of an unimportant conversation, or waiting at a red light, the little things were adding up and I was in a foul mood. But then something strange happened; about 10 seconds into the first track my frown began to disappear, by the second track it had turned into a full-blown smile, and by the end of the album I was giggling for no reason other than how giddy The New Loud's songs had made me. Even before listening to the CD enough to familiarize myself with the lyrics I couldn't help but sing along at the top of my lungs. It was as if I had no choice, The New Loud's songs simply demanded it. The first track, "Secrets", is the brightest shining example of this. With a melody that will stick with you all day and cease to ever grow old, and a beat impossible not to bounce to, it is by far my favorite track. I thought my energy had sky rocketed through the roof until I heard the next rack, "Better This Way". It successfully maintained the same exhilarating potency, enthusing me even further than I thought possible. The third track, "Heart Attack", is a bit less vivacious, which is undeniably a good thing; had it not I fear the result may have been, well, a heart attack. While slower paced than the two previous tracks, and a bit more melancholy, it was equally as powerful. The fourth and final track, "My Hot New Moves", was what really got my giggling. While listening to it I found myself unable to rid my face of an embarrassingly goofy smile, and thanked God that no one was around to witness it. I felt like I was in the very beginning stages of falling for someone, when my stomach is continuously filled with butterflies and I find the corners of my mouth turning upwards even in the most unlikely of situations. It was this final song that sealed the deal; my day had officially gone from infuriating to electrifying. Whether you're in dire need of uplifting, as I was, or already in the highest of spirits, Me (Secrets) You is an unbeatable choice. Most albums contain upwards of fifteen songs and very rarely affect our day even in the slightest. However in four short songs The New Loud managed to entirely turn mine around. Guaranteed to alleviate any bad mood and magnify any good one, you simply can't go wrong. Written By Cassandra Brown
