We have finished the record. We think it's turned out quite well, and we hope you'll agree. It is called "Anticipation", and here's why
What is now "The Rust" really began with just Nick James Newhouse and his obsessive, uncontrollable habit of writing face-melting melodic hard rock. Enamored as a youngster by hard rock and alternative bands like Metallica and Chevelle, Nick began crafting hard-hitting songs, working it all up in bedroom-demo fashion. As he grew in his craft, he began melding these sonic qualities with song-smithing sensibilities gleaned from progenitors like Tonic and Default
In 2003 Nick crossed paths with Beau Micah Davidson, at that time a record production student. Together with Nick's brother, Chris Scott, they spent a year and a half living in a strange little condo in a strange little town called Murfreesboro, Tennessee. The three spent this time collaborating and working on independent projects
Chris started slinging meds, and Beau started slinging songs, working in the Nashville music machine at an independent music publishing company called Cal IV Entertainment. This left Nick for a period of time as the sole inhabitant of the formerly bustling creative abode in Murfreesboro. In early 2007, while catching up with Nick over a burger in Green Hills, Beau began to recognize the wealth of great songs that Nick had amassed over the past several years. Ambitions were born, and they set out to tweak and arrange the cream of the crop
Several months and many late nights in the studio later, with a dozen songs or so wood-shedded to the point of satisfaction, the two handed over the reins to producer Jon King (Augustana, The October, Kate Linné). Jon admits this has been the most challenging project of his career. He was initially attracted to the project because the scope and style were different than any other project he'd produced. Known for his tenacity and unflinching commitment for turning out a world-class record, King rose to the challenge
Throughout the recording process Nick collected a solid group of Nashville rock stalwarts to comprise his band, starting with his bro, Chris Scott playing keys and programming. They then enlisted Dove award winning drummer Andrew Hendrix (Red), 5-time SPL World Champion basshead, Greg McCool locking down the low end, and gear-junkie shredder Justin Davenport on lead guitar. It wasn't until the record was finally nearing completion that Beau formally joined the band, providing rhythm guitar and backing vocals, as well as serving in a management capacity, capitalizing on his involvement in the business of music
And that's where the story picks up. We're getting ready to play a bunch of shows and get our music to you in every way possible. Thanks for being a part of this with us we can't wait to see you out there. We will make no apologies, so if you don't like rock and roll please excuse yourself from the party
Yours truly
The RUST.
