About the Artist
Two Guitars Clash - Doug Rowe - vocals/guitar, Brad Dooley -guitar/vocals, Peter King - bass and Pete Hanlon – drums, are from Newfoundland an island on the easternmost edge of North America. This makes the band geographically challenged, but their music has a tenacity that transcends the Cabot Strait to the rest of the world.
Two Guitars Clash play real instruments and sing about real life…’street rock’ they call it. Their music combines the raw energy of vintage punk rock with roots rock n' roll. Punk legend Henry Cluney (
www.henrycluney.com), founder of the Belfast band Stiff Little Fingers, said that Two Guitars Clash’s music was “GREAT stuff”.
Their name instantly identifies them as guitar based rock n' roll. Ken Simmons observed that, "Two Guitars Clash isn't just about those 12 strings, there's a message to the madness, chainsaw delivered with sharp enough edges to poke through your detachment." (The Telegram Aug. 29, 2008) Two Guitars Clash preserve the roots of protest music evident in a line from the band’s song “Rock N’ Roll Radar” which roars, “Sorry to say boys seems you’ve nothing to say- the roots of rock n’ roll weren’t planted in that way”. Their fiery leftist ideals can be heard throughout their music, and though their songs often speak of harsh realities, at the same time they offer an empowering vibe of optimism and hope.
Two Guitars Clash released their debut EP, "Heart & Brain"(2008) of which John Hutton (former Music NL president) said that “there is no doubt in my mind that Two Guitars Clash could, should, and probably will become a major player in the Canadian music market”. New York's Big Takeover Magazine (#63) said that the EP was “Great!...can’t wait for more!"
Two Guitars Clash has a reputation for passionate and powerful live shows that has won the band a loyal and growing following. Right now they are at the drawing board writing new material and polishing their sound before heading back into the studio this summer. Their forthcoming LP ‘The New Economy’ is due to be released later this year.
