Tom Halpin first heard Lisa Ritchie at a local talent show, singing an untitled original written two nights before. Instantly falling in love with her voice, Tom pursued Lisa with a proposition weeks later to record and produce her song. Tom began recording Lisa’s original song by recruiting Nick Rifken on kit. Three practices and two recording sessions later, the group finished the track, “These Depths for You”. With their shared desire to continue working together, the group became Hush, Love.
Collaborating with talented local artists and friends in the vibrant music scene of Ann Arbor, Hush, Love is taking advantage—as students at the University of Michigan—of the university’s multi-million dollar recording studio to track their first EP, [title], scheduled to be released April 20. Their first single “These Depths For You” will be released on March 15.
Hush, Love draws from the divergent experiences, backgrounds, and perspectives of its members to create a refreshing, honest, pop-folk sound. Lisa Ritchie, lead singer-songwriter of Hush, Love, finds her songs are inspired by her faith and past experiences. Nick Rifken, drummer of the band, seeks to find the best rhythmic structure to each song – influenced by his experiences as a U of M percussionist immersed in classical, jazz, afro-Cuban, Brazilian, and minimalist styles. Lastly, Tom Halpin, a singer-songwriter in his own right, lends his voice, electric guitar, and audio-engineering skills to produce Hush, Love’s sound. The trio find unity through their friendship and passion for creating music.
