Many of my songs are, for lack of a better word, channeled. Meaning, the melodies and words just come, the song essentially "writes itself". For hours beforehand, there will be physical and emotional cues that let me know "something is ready" - a persistent tightness in the chest, a lump in the throat, a sort of light-headed clarity. For hours beforehand, there will be physical and emotional cues that let me know "something is ready" - a persistent tightness in the chest, a lump in the throat, a sort of light-headed clarity. So I know that I need to get into a "clear place" to let it come through. The emotions vary, but there is a always sense of them being both mine and not-mine - a familiarity and otherness.The melodies are, of course, mine - and when the words come, I scramble to get it all captured, because it hangs in the air only for awhile and then dissipates.
