Memories Fade is about dealing with things in your own way - in this particular case using what you handle well in place of what you cannot handle well. Memories Fade is specifically about the writer's inability to deal with a broken heart, however he substitutes that with his strong ability to deal with death - therefore if he trains his mind to believe his recently ex-girlfriend is dead he can deal with it alot more efficiently.
