Give It Up

Album: Give It Up
By:
Eliza Hanson

Duration

3:38

Description

“Give it Up is a song I wrote to myself at a time when I knew a relationship was over and I needed to find motivation to get off the floor and get moving again. The song ended up coming out as a sort of letter to myself from the Eliza who had already gone through the heartbreak and made it through to tell the story. I was able to see that ‘giving up’ on the hope for that relationship didn’t mean I had failed. Instead, it was it was a declaration that I won’t allow myself to stop growing.”

Lyrics

Give It Up If there’s nothing left of what matters most I don’t know what you’re still waiting for I think it’s time you go I think you outta go I found you drunk on your kitchen floor You scratched her name into your bedroom door I think it’s time you know I think you outta know That if she wandered more than you can search, You’d probably wait upon the carpet at her front door You quit your job and you’re on the run Drove your car towards the southern sun To feel the heat, down on bourbon street And if the morning comes when you’re all alone Will you lose your nerve and pick up the phone Was it what you said, or something that she heard? But if you hold onto her name, it won’t be lost So if you’re trying to make a change you better give it up Memories become the only facts Patterns in your mind begin to connect And if all you have is your regret Could you stand before what’s come to pass If there’s nothing left, if there’s nothing left, you outta go If there’s nothing left, if there’s nothing left, you outta go. You outta go. Hold onto her name it won’t be lost Hold onto her name it won’t be lost Hold onto her name it won’t be lost Trying to make a change you better give it up.
