Description

I wrote this song after the earthquake in Haiti, nearly a year ago now. I was initially afraid to see the images of the devastation, knowing it would impact me emotionally. It definitely did, and continues to today. I call this song Brown Eyes because every picture that came up featured a pair of beautiful brown eyes that was pleading for help.

Lyrics

Brown Eyes By Linley Taylor Verse 1: The earth was moved, came crashing down And every smile became a frown And tears flow freely down from brown eyes. The earth cries out; she turns to you And what are we content to do? How can we ignore a symphony of brown-eyed cries? Verse 2: She’s beautiful and seventeen A building fell and crushed her dream Now I wonder if her brown eyes will sing again. He’s six years old, and loved to play Till an earthquake took his mom away Now brown hungry eyes will search for food today. Chorus 1: Ooh…what will you do Ooh…when a sea of ‘brown eyes’ stare back at you? Verse 3: A man’s brown eyes scream out in pain As he stands in line and waits in vain For the doctor to please call his name. And a mama’s heart is filled with fear Her lost brown eyes overflow with tears ‘Cause her baby girl was deprived of her years. Chorus 2: Ooh…what will you do? Ooh…when a sea of brown eyes Bridge: Are hurting and hopeless Hungry, no place to call home Verse 4: With empty pockets, open hands And broken hearts, brown eyes demand That we do what we can to take a stand. And I am young, my heart is sore But I know we are far from poor So I cannot stay quiet anymore. Chorus 1
