This is a Christmas and new year song. It is a comment on the state of Christmas and how it could be different, but we have tradition which is great but christmas has gift expectation which makes it diluted from the true meaning. The Green man is a symbol of spring and renewal. He could offer hope and life after excess. Better to give a little from your heart than give items that don't mean much.
