Lyrics
Take care of Mama - yuh gotta learn to fill my shoes! Take care of Mama ‘Hun’ just like she took care of you. I remember Daddy cuttin’ the grass – And Mama pullin’ the weeds. They worked in the garden - And they, let me plant the seeds. Daddy fixed our pickup truck – whenever it broke down. We’d dress up Sunday mornin’ and come rolling into town. And Daddy said, Take care of mama – you gotta learn to fill my shoes! Take care of Mama ‘Hun” just like she took care of you. Then one morning daddy cried out and fell down in the hall. Mama called the doctor and her tears began to fall. The doctor looked at daddy, closed his eyes and shed a tear. And daddy called me to his side and whispered in my ear. And Daddy said, Take care of Mama! You gotta learn to fill my shoes. Take care of Mama, Hun, just like she took care of you. And now it’s me who cuts the grass and mama pulls weeds. We think of daddy as we kneel down uh plantin’ seeds. I keep the ol’ truck running - whenever it breaks down. And every Sunday morning I drive Mama into town. And I can hear Dad say, Take care of Mama! Yuh gotta learn to fill my shoes. Take care of Mama ‘Hun’ just like she took care of you. And Daddy now just like you said, until my life is through, I’ll take care of Mama Dad just like she took care of you. Yes, I’ll take care of Mama Dad just like she took care you!
