Description

I had a dream that i was walking out along the beach before a great storm, and came upon Fear itself, who was a withered, old man. When he saw me, he thought that I was the angel of death who'd come to take him away. He had been driven mad by all the wrongs he'd done to humanity, and wanted to right them before he died. I remember that in the dream, I had wondered why I'd let this old man control so much of my life for so long. This song, which is more a poem set to music, was inspired by ...

Lyrics

OLD MAN FEAR I found, old man fear, sitting on a jetty by the sea Tattered waist-coat, long white hair that lifted into the breeze Rocking himself like a child, while mumbling softly, As I approached he, did not stir, but moved to speak - He said, no, no, say that’s it’s not time to go I must undo the wrongs I’ve done, The hopes I’ve thieved from everyone. I took, one more step towards the slippery rock Reached out my hand, towards his but, but he recoiled in distrust The sky was an Monet painting of violet and grey About to burst with the rain it was holding that day And that’s when he said He said, No, No, I am not prepared to go I must undo the wrongs I’ve done The hopes I’ve thieved from everyone. Suddenly I was struck with a vein of grit I became so angry I could almost spit Here’s the man, all my life, who had kept me bound And even now I could feel him try to pull me down, But I resist, back away and then I say…. No, No, It is now my time to go.. I have dreams I left ashore. Days of my own to answer for... I saw Old Man Fear disappear before my eyes Then I opened them and saw that it was time to rise from bed.
