Description

Back Home was written after a conversation with my late father-in-law who was a Vietnam era Vet. He said that when you are a young man overseas, you are not fighting for a cause or a flag. You are fighting to make sure you get home and your buddies get home. I sat down and wrote Back Home for him--for my little brother serving in Afghanistan and every soldier. Here's to getting you back home.

Lyrics

Back home I bet the boys are at the bar drinking ice cold Buds Laughing, back-slapping and cuttin’ up Bet they’ll raise a glass to all of us Man I sure wish I was Back Home Right now Mama’s at the sink washing supper plate While Daddy watches CNN lookin’ for my face Searching for a sign that says I’m OK They’re just counting down the days Til I’m back home Oh now, don’t worry Daddy, you can relax I’m surrounded by the bravest boys in Iraq When we got here we all made a pact Make sure each one of us makes it back Back Home My Amy’s putting little Roni to bed Tucking her in and kissing her head Fighting back the tears when she says Mama, when’s Daddy gonna be Back Home Oh now, don’t worry Amy, you can relax I’m surrounded by the bravest boys in Iraq When we got here we all made a pact Make sure each one of us makes it back Back Home Back Home There’s a little piece of land with a quiet creek And the perfect tree for a tire swing Swear I’ll live there the rest of my life in peace If I make it back Back Home Back Home Back Home I bet the boys are at the bar drinking ice cold Buds Man I sure wish I was… Back Home
