Spending half your life at University doesn't always guarantee you a top job in the city. That's what this song is kinda, trying to say. I've worked in office-blocks most of my life and I've always been amazed at how many people I've met with degrees in their back pocket doing soul-destroying, poorly-paid office work. 'Candy Houses' isn't saying "don't go to university", It's just saying "never assume" I guess.
