Necris Obscura featuring Matt Estep on Vocals, Jeff Dolsen on Lead Guitars, Brandon Wallace on Rhythm Guitar, Erik Hendershot on Bass & Vocals and Jon Andersen on Drums & Vocals was formed in early 2008 with a very heavy, yet progressive musical mindset; not to try to sound different from other bands, not to emulate other bands, but to provide a new direction, creating something honest, real and heartfelt while keeping true to the vast expanses of the metal genre. With all of that being said, an element (or should we say emphasis) on contrast was introduced which became a common denominator at the core of their music.
Listening to their music, you may identify that no emphasis is placed on particular instrument or showcasing an individual. Instead, the focus is directed toward the song, completely free from the suffocating self-indulgent ego-driven interludes. The writing philosophy focusing on "What can be said as a band" in lieu of "How much can be said as individuals in the band" remains as one their focuses and most positive attributes. While sometimes leaving the listener scratching their head saying "what was that?" or "that was an interesting transition", you'll still find their brand of metal dark and thick with a heavy infectious groove all while being free from predictable direction and redundancy.
So put away the No Doze and prepare yourself for a roller coaster ride running the gauntlet of everything metal!
After a long hiatus from November 2011 til July 2012, Necris Obscura reformed after a much needed break. With a renewed sense of creativity, they have begun to write and record new material.
