NOT TODAY formed September 2014. The band started as an acoustic project titled ‘U.N.I’ where vocalist, rhythm guitarist Ayrton McGurgan and lead guitarist Darragh Kelly wrote a mass amount of original songs. With the addition of drummer Emily Pinkerton they decided to go electric where they were later joined by bassist Jason Gallagher.
NOT TODAY played their first gig in Top Of The Town Omagh on the 20th February 2015 and since have become a regular on the local scene while playing a vast amount of locations across NI/Ireland. The band recorded their 6 track debut EP, 'Let It Light' between August 19-21 which was released on October 30th 2015. Soon followed by debut single 'The Get Go' released February 22nd 2016.
"A young band with devloping musicians. Their own tunes range from punky riffers to more delicate sounds of an early Big Country jangle - which may touch upon what The Skids were previously doing." John Allen of Planet Mosh on Newtownards Ivy Bar 09/10/15
"It reminds me of 'Dinosaur Jr.' and 'Teenage Fanclub' and it's got that slightly nonchalant, slackery, grungy, twisted guitar sound and they do it with great passion, it's that 90's rock and roll thing!" - Rigsy & Stuart Bailie of BBC Radio Ulster's 'Across The Line' on 'The Get Go'
"I love it when a musician or band writes a song inspired by my books. It's a sweet, touching accolade. The latest to pen a Shan-generated song is a band from Northern Ireland called Not Today, with a song called A Little Different on their debut EP, Let It Light. One of the members, Ayrton, is a big fan of my books, and he wrote this to reflect Debbie Hemlock's perspective in Tunnels Of Blood. It's a rocky, grungy little number, and you can listen to it for free (as well as the rest of the EP) over here: https://n0ttoday.bandcamp.com/track/a-little-different" - Darren Shan
