picard started as a solo/personal project by Jason (Skwerlz) Ulwelling formerly of Orestus. The sound didn't fit any of the previous bands or projects he was involved in, so the tracks sat on the back burner. The initial intention was to get some ideas tracked and do some personal music. It was only intended to be shared with friends and family. Friends and family began to share as popularity grew the decision was made to name the project and create a facebook page. Other musicians from the area became interested and the project began to get a little more serious.
Mike (Spicy formerly of Orestus) Donaldson, Eric Giardina (Formerly of Black Flood Diesel, Currently with Sounds of a Fallen Echo and Senza) were immediate additions. Rob (Sinestro of Orestus) Zimmerman has recently become involved as well as Brad Hanson(No Loving Place, Senza) , Cory Dahl(South Farwell) and Phil Juodis(Easy Chair)
With the release of their self-recorded "One Moment" the movement into a live act and a full album to be released next fall is set in motion. As the project moved forward members came and went. Various local musician chimed in on the project.
As they move into 2014, the project/band is geared to begin live play in full support of their debut release “#1” throughout the year. They will be returning to the studio in April of 2014 to do a professional recording of their single “One Moment”. “One Moment” was written about Ulwelling’s grandmother ‘s (Patricia Ulwelling) battle with Dimencia/Alzheimer’s and the stress he witnessed on his father. The studio time is being donated by John L. Richardson (Gin Blossoms) and engineering is being donated by Steve Norwick. All proceed from the sales of “One Moment” are to be donated to www.alz.org
toward research and a cure.
The band doesn’t have band pictures and doesn’t do them unless faces are not shown or are blurred. Also the name is always spelled lower case. This is because they decided that picard as an entity is not represented by them personally. The music and the art are entirely different than they are as people. The name is lower case because it represents the collection of art and music. It is simply a label to include all works by them. The art and music itself is the focal point, so everything outside those things are treated as non-important or lesser in value. Hence no face photos and no capitalization of the name.
