At an early age, Jersey earned the title ?leader? from family, friends, coaches, and teachers. He brought honor to the role of Peer Group Leader in elementary school, was presented with the Man of Prestige and Valor Award (MVP) at age thirteen, was active in the Young Entrepreneurs of Newark Program, and at the request of the Mayor, participated in two Youth Games representing the City of Newark. Jersey faced the trials and tribulations of life in the hood head on and permitted self-discipline and inner strength to dictate his decisions. He learned early that hard work was necessary for anything worth having. Alfateen (Jersey) Jones? name represents everything he stands for. He grew up in Newark, New Jersey during a time when it was predicted that the city had nothing to offer except drug dealers, gang bangers, and high-school dropouts destined to be dead or in jail by age 25. At age 20, Jersey?armed with a high school diploma?realized childhood had officially ended and it was time to make his mark as a man. Growing up in a household with three brothers and one sister, he developed a strong sense of family, but in the absence of enough male role models, he found encouragement from hip-hop artist whose lyrics captured his life, and the struggles of growing up in the hood. Jersey?s style is as smooth as jazz, rough as Newark?s streets, and as true as biblical scriptures. His style includes a flow like Notorious B.I.G, spirituality of Bob Marley, and the poetic skills of Tupac; but his technique is summed up in two words, ?His Own?. He?s a young man with something to say, and the door to the hip-hop industry is wide open for this generation to pick up where artists like Buster Rhymes, Redman, and Queen Latifah left off. He knows life offers too much to focus on only one goal or look in only one direction. He also recognizes that God has a plan for his life and with His will as the compass directing his steps nothing is impossible.
