Alana Sveta has been at this singing thing since early childhood. In elementary school Alana joined Honor’s Choir, performed dozens of solos and leads in musicals, entrapping ten-year-old boys all across Okaloosa County Florida with her premature soulful melodies. Recording since age 12, Alana has several years of jazz training behind her having been taught by Bay Area Jazz Great Gail Dobson, mother of New York singer Sasha Dobson, and wife of the late and legendary jazz pianist Smith Dobson. Alana’s high school band, Gogonasty played a few shows around San Jose, CA in 2003 and 2004. Their one and only single “Don’t Cough” became the second most downloaded indie song on soundclick.com for two weeks in December of 2003. Guitarist of the band, Wyman Apple begged Alana to forgo university and pursue the band, but the mantras of obligation and duty to education wrought by her parents could not be overcome at that time. In art school, Alana became distracted and unable to pursue music. She stopped singing and gigging. She spent a few months working as a jazz singing waitress at Max’s Opera House Café in San Francisco, but was fired after taking too long to deliver some dude a straw on New Year’s Eve. He wrote a letter. After three years out of the music scene, waiting tables and submitting to the Saturday night desires of her boyfriends, Alana reconnected with her god given talent and decided to buy a guitar and keyboard. Her given name, Rachel Alana Stewart was dropped after realizing that there are way too many Rachel Stewarts with an online presence and one of them happens to be on iTunes playing mediocre jazz clarinet- a woman Alana does NOT want to be confused with. She chose Alana Sveta in honor of her biological father, a Polish doctor and all around stranger. Alana Sveta’s first album, which will be titled Birth and the Atomic Bomb, is scheduled for completion in February 2009. The fourteen songs on the album are a culmination of writing from summer of 2007 to summer of 2008. In this year, Alana dropped out of school, twice, sold her eggs, went on tour for the first time, and finally came to terms with her genitalia, which she’d love to tell you about. Contributors on the album were songwriter and composer Kyle Drury from the band Emerald Hill, vocals from Rosa Leonardo of Emerald Hill, vocals from San Francisco siren Honeybody Moonbee and percussion from Darren Wilkerson of Fleeting Trance. All tracks were engineered by Mat Strickland, co-owner of Hitwall Studios in South San Francisco. Alana will be shopping the album out to labels and booking agents after completion in February.
