Defining Alchemists of Darkness feels a complicated task from its own conception: from the original idea of designing a gothic metal sound purely dark, influenced by the school of Katatonia, Fields of the Nephilim, Paradise Lost or Flowing Tears; until becoming a project that features touches from Dream Theater, Dark Tranquillity, At the Gates, and even indie sounds like Klimt 1918, Coldplay, Madee, among others. Regarding these premises, seems even harder to find the proper tag for a band, specially in this musical moment where every creative entity needs an association with a determined and specific genre. AoD works due to their lack of this need, and it is only interested on expressing a message on every tune, always with a motive, and using the resources that the beautiful world of music has at their disposal. Despite regional trends, national ones, or any other territorial identity, AoD is what the listener feels and perceives when he listens to their melodies. Through the release at Autumn 2008 via the Internet of the Laments EP/Demo, is constituted the line-up that really makes the turning of this initiative's engine. A small modest 6-tracks album on which the basic ideas where the quintet from Jaén starts to work are gathered, far away from the greatest productions at the time in both technical and musical aspects, but in the end, the beginning of an illusion. Nowadays, thanks to the huge labour of producer Luis Alcázar (Com.pulsion, Emerge, ME, De/Vision), it is proceeded to the edit of the new The Light Ends single: an inflection point between the most primitive harmonical progressions of the band and the new influences they are opening out onto, with the only purpose of being the recipients of hard-working years from reputed and established artists, and also being able to reap them, always from humility and modesty, creating alchemy inside the melodic darkness impregnating the music that makes them feel alive.
