The love of music is life to me. My dad was song leader at church so all of us children would sing with dad all the time growing up. I was five years old the first time dad let me lead singing at church. Mom and granddaddy said that I held the songbook upside down, like I needed a songbook to sing. My mom's dad and her brothers played the guitar and sang country music. They put the guitar in my hands and taught me how to play and sing with them. I was hooked on country music and have been ever since. There were five children in my family. Mom helped us start a little family band called the Amazing Mayes. She made us matching vest to wear when we preformed at the campgrounds. Richard played the bass, Kay played the drums, Elizabeth (Bee for short) played the autoharp, and baby brother Andy played the morocco's. And me, well, I played the guitar and would sing with all my brothers and sisters. I sometimes made up little songs for us to sing. We all grew up and went down life's road. But the love of music went with us. At the family reunions everyone pulls out their guitars and plays and sings all afternoon. (I guess you could say there is music on our family tree). Will Smith produced my 2nd CD, Slow Down. The songs of this album are to make you stop and think about how fast life can go by. I tested some of these songs at Eddie's Attic in Atlanta, Ga., the Wild Horse Saloon in Nashville, Tn. And the Blue Bird café in Nashville, Tn. My 3rd CD, Night Like This, was produced by Steve Goody at Punch Sound and myself. This album is a feel good album. I hope these songs make people feel better about what life can throw at them. So if life gives you lemons make lemon aid not a funny face or make that too and make someone else laugh.
