A Canadian of Jamaican descent, Althea combines the influences of her cultural heritage, her passion for jazz music, and her dedication to create a fresh and contemporary vocal sound drawing from jazz, roots and blues tradition. This keeps her a highly in - demand songwriter, educator and sideperson for projects of various styles and has also allowed her to nurture her career as a bandleader. As well as an excellent tunesmith, Cunningham is multi- instrumentalist, playing her dynamic Voice (primary) on Sennheiser Microphones, Yamaha keyboard and a variety of Dixon percussion instruments.
