From hip-hop dancer, choreographer, private dance instructor, music videos and Super Bowl performances, Alyssa Jacey assumed the dance industry would be her career. However after 20 years of hip-hop, ballet, jazz and more, Alyssa went from dancer to singer literally overnight. "One day I just made the decision to pursue music. I spent my whole life dancing but there was always something missing; Kareoke night changed all that and my life has never been the same." Jacey stopped dancing almost entirely, spent her days and nights writing, recording and teaching herself acoustic guitar while simultaneously attending (now graduated from) Cal State San Marcos in her hometown, San Diego. Now here it is almost 2010, 5 years down the road, nearly 400 shows, 200 original songs, released 3 (soon to be 4) records and a couple more instruments later, Jacey is as solid about her decision to switch careers as the day she made it. "The second I made the choice to put music first, I knew it was the right one. I had that, 'When you know, you know,' type of mentality, and I just knew. There's not a moment that goes by that I regret moving on from dance and even though I miss it, I don't look back. Perhaps in the future I may incorporate the two but for now, it's all about moving forward, growing, learning and enjoying all the wonderful elements that music has to offer!" Alyssa, who books all her shows, manages, promotes and markets her career said, "2009 will be my most successful year yet!" One of her 75-Music-Goals was to open for bigger name acts and she did just that; Bushwalla (friend/roommate of Jason Mraz), Scott Russo (of Unwritten Law) Paula Cole, Meiko, Jack Tempchin, Bruno Mars, Matt Hires, Serena Ryder, and was requested to open for Ingrid Michealson by the SD House of Blues and while on tour this Fall opened for Parachute at 3rd & Lindsley in Nashville. Another goal was to tour, and for 3.3 weeks she went on a solo acoustic tour all over the North East and South East. Another was to win competitions and ended up as a finalist in the Toyota/Myspace Records competition and as the winner of the 2nd Annual San Diego Your Song competition put on by San Diego Magazine and Sophie 103.7fm! She auditioned, was accepted and sang the National Anthem live in front of 15,000 people at a Padres home game in April! Most importantly, she has been wanting to put out a new record by her birthday (12/28) and in October wrapped up the recording her first full-length album (but 4th total release), titled "Here's To Change," at the notable Studio West! It features fan favorites such as her hit single, “Fall Out of Love,” (on iTunes and playing on Sophie, KPRI and 94/9fm!), "Feel Like This," the title track, "Here's To Change," and 7 others! Lastly, check out www.youtube.com/alyssajacey for behind the scenes footage of her "Fall Out of Love" music video shoot which wrapped in November.
