Amanda Rheaume's life changed at Lilith Fair '99 in Toronto when the aspiring songwriter was invited on stage by Sarah McLachlan to do a rendition of Bob Dylan's "I Shall Be Released". The 16 year-old performed alongside Sarah, the Dixie Chicks, the Indigo Girls and Sheryl Crow. This experience changed her destiny, “Sharing the stage with these powerhouse performers made me realize music was what I had to do". Amanda put her new found inspiration to work, honing her performance chops as singer-songwriter and guitarist in front of as many people as possible through open mic and club gigs. Her 2003 full-length release Unraveling was the fruit of this labour. Featuring a sound beyond her years, the album spawned fan-favorites "Red" and "1974". Rheaume would go on to incorporate elements of rock, funk and pop on her next two discs Even When (2005) and If You Never Live (2007). She further garnered radio airplay with her 2008 singles "Collision" and "Not Giving Up". In 2008, Amanda Rheaume won $40,000.00 in LiVE 885’s The Big Money Shot - battle of the bands competition. In the same year, Rheaume began performing internationally, playing shows for Canadian troops in Afghanistan. This past summer, she headlined several Canada Day celebrations in embassies across Central America and traveled to the Faroe Islands to perform at the G! Festival. As a both a solo performer and with her five-piece band Amanda has shared the stage with The White Stripes, Lucinda Williams, Ani Difranco, Jeff Beck, Michael Franti and others. A decade after that inspirational Lilith weekend, Amanda's hard work and talent have culminated in the release of Kiss Me Back, her latest EP. Unlike anything she has done before, this work features a split sonic personality. The first three songs are coated in stunning pop production courtesy of Jeff Dawson (State of Shock, Daniel Powter, Kelly Rowland) while the second half is stripped down, intimate and acoustic. The opposing sides converge to display Rheaume’s diverse set of musical skills, from her flair for infectious pop hooks - as heard on “Be Your Enemy” - to subtle, introspective soul, as heard “Watching The Signs”. Her creative fires have been stoked through co-writing sessions with Holly McNarland, Chantal Kreviazuk, and Jeff Pearce (Moist) and her songwriting reaches new heights in tunes like “All That You Need” and “Care a Little Less”. Amanda just completed her third National Babes For Breasts tour in support of regional Breast Cancer centres . As the co-founder of Babes and the headline performer, she travelled from St. John’s to Yellowknife, raising funds and awareness about breast cancer at many stops along the way. A homespun success story, Amanda is an inspiration to artists everywhere who wish to build a career in music on their own. Entirely self-managed and promoted, Rheaume has cultivated a large and devoted fan base. Taking musical passion and making a career of it has been Amanda's story.
