About amodernmachine

Oakland, CA

A Modern Machine displays a manifest attraction for New Wave, conjuring up echoes of The Police, Bauhaus and The Cure, while advancing the stark intensity of Bloc Party and Radiohead

Collaborators since 2001, singer/guitarist Fayvor Love and drummer Serena Ho released their first album "Figure and Ground" together in 2003 and performed as a trio with bassist Tomas Matza. Appearing as Fayvor Love alongside Bay Area indie rock staples Rogue Wave, Kelley Stoltz, and Elephone, the group's local circuit touched on the cornerstone San Francisco venues Cafe Du Nord, Bottom of the Hill, Slim's, and The Great American Music Hall. Shortly after the band played in the 2005 NoisePop Festival, Tomas defected to Russia, the original duo reanimating in 2006 to record an EP at SF SoundWorks with the special attention of Tony Espinoza. A Modern Machine was formed with the addition of bassist Eli Leland, a college friend (and once rival frontman) of Fayvor's, and the band released its self-titled EP in 2007.
