Progressive. Loud. Rock. There are lots of words to describe Arma, a band making quick strides in Chicago's rock scene. Powerful. High Energy. But getting into this new band means experiencing a live show. The songs on their debut EP are driving and melodic, but it's during a performance that their songs unveil a whole new energy. Arma uses their time on stage as a chance to strike rock fans with something new. Citing influences ranging from modern to half-a-century old, Arma combines incredible vocals with a thundering rhythm section and innovative guitar work. The collective is something that should be experienced, not described. Arma formed after Rhode Island native Taylor Brennan responded to a Chicago ad for a singer. He heard a few song samples, sent back a few ideas, and flew out to audition for guitarist Alejandro Guzman and drummer Ben Ludwig. After an instant connection, Taylor moved to Chicago. They recruited Mike Cali, who had played bass in Ben's last band. By November of 2008, Arma quickly got to work writing, and started performing as soon as they had enough material. After fantastic reaction from the first few live performances, Arma scheduled shows throughout the rest of the winter into spring, with enough time apart to work on new material. The group works to bring one new song to every show. Arma released their debut, self-titled EP on January 1st, 2009. The EP was recorded and produced by Arma, and mixed by Fred Hahn, a friend of the band. Other friends that have contributed their talents to Arma are Tat Correll and Stas Tencza, who have donated their time to help with graphics and merchandizing and web-design, respectively.
