About ben carter

Andover, MA

You’ve seen them everywhere; in bars, restaurants, street corners and subways: That guy with the acoustic guitar. They’re all the same. From their music down to the way they look. But what if there was someone who broke the mold? 24 year old Ben Carter broke it then lit it on fire so no one could tell it was ever the mold to begin with.

Hailing from Boston, MA Ben has spent the last few years building up a following with his personable unique songwriting and energetic live shows. He’s opened for Matt Nathanson, Virginia Coalition, Piebald and has played Festivals in the New England area.

Having taught himself guitar in high school Ben started to write songs and play shows in college at the University of Rhode Island. “Everything started to happen pretty naturally…I just fell in love with writing songs and playing shows. I've always been lucky enough to have amazing friends to come to every show and bring more people with them.”

It’s hard to place Ben in any one particular genre of music. His music ha a pop-sensibility with folk, country, alternative undertones. "I really just write whatever comes to me. I don't give myself any boundaries at all really. I mainly try to rip off the Eagles as much as possible (laughs)" His favorite bands range from Phish, Motion City Soundtrack, Nickel Creek to Death Cab for Cutie. All of them making his taste in music as diverse as it can almost get. From the anthem "Polaroid Carolina" to 1950’s throw back “Anna” and the heat breaking "Soul” it’s all just plain good.

“I really try to be as honest as I can when I write songs. It’s important to not hold back with what you want to say because if you do then why bother trying to saying it at all? I think people can find a connection with what you’re saying when you put all of your cards down on the table.”
