Few artists can attest to selling 15,000 units out of the trunk of their car in Atlanta alone. After moving 3,000 copies of his debut album “It Is What It Is” in his hometown of Cincinnati, rapper Chedray traveled to the hip-hop capital of the south to compete amongst the best in the game. He considers the success of his first album one of his greatest accomplishments to date. As a young father, Chedray saw an opportunity to turn his passion for music, and raw talent as a rapper into a means to feed his daughter Nyla. At eighteen he caught the attention of Three Street Records and recorded his first demo. Once the opportunity he was promised fell through, he knew he could only depend on his own hustle to make his music industry dreams a reality. Hungry for success, Chedray threw himself head first into the rap game. In 2003 he formed a rap group called “Goodfellas” with his partners Rico and Dion. They recorded the album “Shut Up & Listen” which garnered major buzz and radio airplay in Cincinnati selling over 5,000 copies. The success of “Goodfellas” lasted until 2005 when Chedray lost his group members to jail and crime. Refusing to give up, Chedray continued to work towards making it as a solo artist. He’s appeared on a plethora of mix tapes and has opened shows for Lil Wayne, the Game, Rick Ross, and T.I. to name a few. He prides himself on “keeping it real” and rapping about his every day life experiences, which have attributed to the success he’s received thus far. Being a truly authentic artist is what he strives to be known for. In addition to Chedray’s commitment to support his family, he feels obligated to revive Cincinnati’s “dead” hip-hop scene; not only as a rapper, but as a businessman working towards one day owning an empire. With the success of his first album and his newly minted label Jea Jea Records, he is on track to become the next big thing to emerge from underground hip-hop. and his second album “Overnight Success” is slated to release in the summer of 2009. He is confident “Overnight Success” will help him become just that, by securing the major record deal he deserves.
