About Chontella Young-Ivy

Las Vegas, NV

Chontella Renee Young-Ivy
Singer/Somgwriter

Born a Chicago native Dec 18, 1968, Chontella was raised around the best of Chicago’s best musicians Mighty Joe Young (her grandfather), Ko Ko Taylor, Tyrone Davis, Cicero Blake, just to name a few. Chontella was able to grow as she watched her grandfather perform at many rehearsals as well as her father’s (Joe Young Jr’s. live stage presence.
As if the blues wasn’t enough Chontella took a liking to the church as a small child and took up refuge in the Sunday School Choir of which she became the director from age 7-13 years old.
Leaving the church after being a victim to sexual molestation in the church; Chontella would gain even more vocal expression, by whaling out her life experiences, so her gift exhaled through the ability to survive her parent’s divorcing, childhood sexual abuse, teenaged promiscuity, rape, her addiction to drugs and alcohol prostitution, selling drugs, the streets and prison.
She has shared the stage with the likes of Floyd Taylor Mighty Joe Young Jr. & the MJY Blues Band, Mel Waiters, Otis Clay, Nellie Travis, Dennis Edwards, Millie Jackson, & Slave She has been the headliner in (2008) Maywood Blues Festival and has opened for her Father Mighty Joe Young Jr. in Junes (2007) Chicago Blues Fest. Chontella has also spearheaded her own Gospel productions as well as partnered with her sister Leah in a group they birthed called Divine Flow.
Chontella discovered who she really was through her experiences and turned many negative circumstances of her life into a positive outcome; she’s a brand new woman; she’s strong, vibrant and transformed. And you can hear it every time she opens her mouth to sing or speak. She is extremely talented-able to sing an old spiritual hymn, or an upbeat traditional/contemporary gospel; a blues or jazz standard, sultry rhythm & blues special or even an original piece that may have come from her own collection of awesome ballads that she loves singing, while sharing the good news of the gospel to the world. Either way Chontella’s fans always receive her well, because anyway she comes you can feel her spirit through her song. Whenever you hear her you are guaranteed to never be the same again. Her vocals have the ability to change people and change situations.

Job 19:25-26
I know that my Redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand upon the earth. And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God.
