Biography

This Durham NC native, known for his down right offensively witty metaphors, punchlines that could TKO a microphone, and explosive delivery, didn’t see this one coming himself. This Durham NC native, known for his down right offensively witty metaphors, punchlines that could TKO a microphone, and explosive delivery, didn’t see this one coming himself. In fact, out of over 15 years of freestyling & battling with his peers, he’s only been serious about music for the last two. It was well worth the wait though, as it seems he has thoroughly put time and effort into honing his skills. From embracing the style of Kriss Kross at a very early age, to forming the rap group T.I.E.C. (Tony Isaac Eric & Chris) in grade school, he was unknowingly developing his now remarkable talent. “Our teacher used to let us perform in class occasionally and all the students in class would be so excited if they knew we were performing that day. It’s kinda funny now that I think about it,” he says with a slight grin. “I used to literally let my tape rock ‘til my tape popped listening to Notorious BIG, Jay-Z, The Lox, & Eminem when I was home.” That eventually lead to battling his peers and recording in homemade studios throughout high school and college and gaining much popularity from his peers and students around the campus of UNC-Charlotte. Other interests lead him to eventually drop out of college after 2 years to pursue other goals. Noticing that almost every minute of his spare time was dedicated to freestyling over instrumentals, he decided to buy some studio time. “I just figured well, if I do it all the time without anyone’s influence, that must make it my passion, right? Might as well pursue it,” he explains. Needless to say, the rest is history. He has without a doubt acquired the skills needed to be a phenomenal artist. Even more amazing, he never writes a single lyric. With words and concepts that keep you fully engaged from beginning to end, and in his words, “A drive strong enough to crack the pavement on a parkway”, Chris Sutton is definitely a buzzing artist that will be hard to go unnoticed.
