On the streets of urban America, China White is the name of a particularly potent drug that is highly addictive, superior quality and color. It is one of the deadliest forms of illicit drugs on the street today. Likewise in hip hop, the name Chyna Whyte is the lyrical femme fatale with powerful and equally potent rhymes that have put the rap game in complete and permanent choke-hold. Although best known for her power-packed performance on Lil Jon & the Eastside Boys classic club banger and Billboard charted song "Bia Bia," where she stood toe-to-toe lyrically with the likes of Ludacris and the legendary Too Short. Chyna Whyte has been in the music industry and writing and recording for more than 14 years. Born Stephanie Lewis in New Orleans and raised in the city's infamous 9th Ward, Chyna never had dreams of becoming a rap star. I never wanted to rap or do videos, I remember it being one summer after I had graduated high school and I was sitting in my room and the thought just popped in my head and from that day on that is what I have been doing since. I do believe it was part of my destiny. Five years after that decision she put together a demo tape and sent it to numerous major labels, one of them being So So Def Records based in Atlanta in which the A&R was Lil Jon of Lil Jon & The Eastside Boys. At that time he was working on a group he was producing and he wanted her to be apart of it so he invited her down for a weekend to meet him and the other members. The meeting went well and Chyna signed with BME Records, Jon’s label in 1999. They went on to record the smash hit song single “Bia Bia” that got them a distribution deal with TVT Records in 2001 and several gold and platinum album after that. Although things were going well for her creation “Chyna Whyte” and her career, Stephanie on the other hand personally had a battle within. The music became a burden to me because I wasn’t doing what was in my heart. I had accepted Jesus Christ into my heart at the age of 16 but I was 33 when I decided to walk away from what I was doing and let God have his way. I was tired of the music a long time ago. I was tired of myself because I felt like I was living two lives. I had went through some things that caused me to become angry and bitter and it reflected through Chyna Whyte but as I grew closer to God I began to see that I didn’t have to be angry and the message in my music was death. God called me to be a messenger for him. Although I was saved I was still doing old things. It wasn’t lining up with God’s word and I really wasn’t doing what was in my heart, which was to worship God through song. I didn’t know how to incorporate God in what I was doing and the side I was on didn’t want to hear it. I battled spirit against flesh for a long time until one day I told God yes. I knew I wasn’t fully trusting God and believing that he had already equipped me for what he called me to do. I was trusting in my own capabilities and operating in fear and I frankly didn’t think that I could walk a straight line. So I stepped back from it all. I turned to God and consumed myself in him which is what I longed to do and I finally had peace. I felt like I was free from the bondage. Now with the world still eagerly awaiting her debut LP, Chyna with the help of Jesus has re-invented her image and her life. She has a new label, her very own WhyteHowse Entertainment and a new book she’s finishing up entitled “God or Riches” which will be out soon. I have a mandate for the young people. They need to know that God is the answer, that he is real. I want them to know the truth about the industry and the things that they think are real are not and that life, the riches, the glamour, the fame that they are lusting for is nothing without God. I don’t want them to get caught up into the hype because that’s all that it is. I’m ready to bust hell wide open on earth, to expose the enemy and to show people to the light which is Jesus Christ. I want the young kids and adults, really everybody that’s hurting and looking for answers to know that everything that they want and need is in God and that they shall not die but live and declare the works of the Lord.
