Formed 2004 - Los Angeles, California Adam Unknown - vocals, guitar, drums, bass, keyboards, songwriter Leyla Saberi - keyboards, violin Blake - bass, guitar J777 - live drums, piano ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Long Beach, CA raised Adam Unknown was playing piano, banjo and Lincoln Log "drums" at age three, his parents divorced soon after and he moved to a small logging town outside of Eugene, Oregon at age 10. Bored in his room, anti-social and shy, Adam spent hours in his room playing drums and guitar to his favorite 80s new wave and heavy metal records. It wasnt long before the troublemaker was kicked out of high school, ran away from home and joined several bands that took him on tour from Seattle to San Francisco to play rain-soaked basements, college campuses, laundrymats and abandonded movie theaters with Beat Happening, Bikini Kill, Elliott Smith and American Music Club. Many of Adam's early recordings can be found on cassettes, 45s and CDs including SpinART and K records. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ After grunge-hype destroyed the Northwest DIY indie scene in the late 90s, Adam returned to his hometown of Los Angeles to write soundtrack music for independent films while working at Rockaway Records in Silverlake and soon starts a Wedding Present tribute band that performed at the (then) newly-opened Spaceland. A few years later, after seeing an intimate show by Death Cab For Cutie at Spaceland in 1999, Adam starts writing music that conveyed a softer emo-spective side and decides to start a band that had atmosphere, delicacy and integrity. Not as drummer, but as songwriter and guitarist. He didn't expect to be the singer, that was an accident. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 2002-04 Electroclash hits LA and has a big impact on the music of Cutephase, as Adam is writing and recording new music during the day and spending nights out at shows and 80s/electro dance clubs. At the Echo, then-home of Club Synthetic, Adam meets keyboardist Leyla Saberi who had played some piano and violin as a child, but was out of practice. After a few practices, her parts were down and a new band was born. The newly-formed duo played their first show at a packed Echo for Club-82 , followed by a West Coast tour. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In 4 years, Cutephase have performed over 60 shows most notably in LA: he Echo, Boardners, Knitting Factory, Galaxy Theater (opening for John Cale!), Club Moscow, Club Underground, Hang the DJs, Bar Sinister, the Rikshaw Stop in San Francisco and Neurolux in Boise. The songs "London Drugs" "Lonesome" and "Switchblade" have been played on KROQ, Indie 103.1 and several US college stations through a contest won on ourstage.com which landed them a spot on ourstage's CD sampler. Cutephase have booked studio time at Geza X's Satellite Studios in Malibu to finish recording thier debut album with Paul Rosseler (Screamers). The CD, entitled "Victim Loved Silence" is set to be released on thier own label, True Love Always Records in summer 2008.
