Danielle French Shadows (2007)Cruising through the ether as well as the underworld with fellow artists like Jane Siberry and even Tom Waits, singer/songwriter Danielle French is possessed of a diverse and slightly surreal talent. Danielle’s third full-length independent CD, Shadows, has been described as “beautiful strangeness”, uncovering melodies that are somewhat strange, yet somehow familiar. Shadows has been charting across the country: #2 on CKUA, Alberta; #15 on CJSW, Calgary; #23 on CKXU, Lethbridge, #23 on CFMU, Hamilton; and on CFBX The 'X' 92.5, Kamloops at #21 and #5 on the Specialty Charts under the top 10 Roots Albums.Danielle is an award-winning singer/songwriter who, in her 10+ years as a recording artist and performer, has worked with an impressive list of musicians and producers that reads like a who’s who of the Canadian music industry. Burton Cummings, Rita McNeil, Matthew Good, as well as members Spirit of the West, the Rheostatics, and Sarah McLachlan’s band have all leant their talents and/or support to Danielle’s previous endeavors. Shadows was co-produced by the multi-multi-talented Jonathan Lewis (the Plaid Tongued Devils), who also played violin, accordion, mandolin and keyboards. Peter Moller and Diane Kooch, of Kris Demeanors’ Crack Band, formed the rhythm section. Madman guitarists, Martin Tielli (Rheostatics) played bizarre and beautiful electric guitars and contributed his gorgeous voice and Diego Medina (Chad Van Gaalen) added just the right amount of strange synth sounds to take this project into outer space. Time to Kill, a circusy Tom Waits inspired song, placed 2nd runner up in the Calgary Folk Festival Songwriting Competition in 2005 and made it to the semi-finals in the 2006 International Songwriting Competition. Her song Descending appeared in the TV show Falcon Beach earlier this year.
