Dead by Request is an alias for Pedro G. Marques. Pedro was born in Lourenço Marques, Mozambique, in 1974 and came to Portugal soon after his birth. He started to show a deep interest in music since his early youth and began tooking piano lessons at the age of 8. Later, he joined the Vila Real Music Academy and, afterwards, the Oporto Jazz School. In his teens, Pedro was a huge Metal fan but soon his horizons became wider, embracing almost every genre: Post-Punk to Easy Listening; Electronica to Jazz; Classical to Industrial. The early nineties saw the birth of Huska (a.k.a. Hüska Burra Mamô), a Goth/Punk/Hardcore band from Vila Real, with Marques taking the role of the lead singer. The group disbanded around 1995. In the beginning of the new millennium, Pedro collaborated on Jorge Coelho’s soundtrack for the portuguese movie “O Meu Sósia e Eu” by Tiago Guedes. In 2003, after getting a new synthesizer, the idea of making a solo musical project took form in his mind and Dead by Request was born. Initially, DBR’s music was deeply influenced by some well-known ambient/experimental icons such as Coil, Legendary Pink Dots or Klaus Schulze but, after a while, it’s sound gained a lot more of a synthpop/electro-rock feeling, much in the vein of bands like Clan of Xymox, Lou Champagne System, The Danse Society or Depeche Mode. Dead by Request’s first recording - “The Zero Hour” - was made in 2006 and it was entirely recorded and produced in his home studio. Lately, Dead by Request is mainly dedicated to the composition and recording of original soundtracks such as "Color Me Night", a multimedia installation by the photographer Anne Holmes, and "A Nation of Gardeners", a soundtrack for the photographs of Valerie Finnis that was comissioned by the Royal Horticultural Society. Maybe in the future it will be available a record with these and other original soundtracks.
