DJ (Dean James) Rowatt was born on March 2nd 1994 in a small town (population just over 70,000) just 86 miles north east of Toronto Ontario Canada named Peterborough. DJ has been singing country music since he was about 3 years old. DJ currently lives on the outskirts of Peterborough with his Mother Sue, Step Father Tim and younger brother Ryan. At the early age of 4 it was quickly realized by his parents and grandparents that DJ had talent when he could sing word for word the song by Tim McGraw and Faith Hill titled “It’s Your Love” without even knowing how to yet read. DJ has become guilty by association because he was surrounded by a family who enjoys listening to and playing Country music. DJ’s Grandfather Doug Montgomery who was and still is heavily involved in performing and organizing Country Jamboree’s around the surrounding area took DJ under his wing he demonstrated a strong love and care in keeping Classic Country music alive and exposing the raw talent within the local entertainers who also shared this love. With his Grandfather by his side DJ started singing in public on stages of the local Jamboree’s at the age of 7. DJ has become a sponge and has always wanted to learn more. Around the age of 7 he started playing guitar. With only a few formal beginner lessons and the some teaching from his Grandfather he now surprises others with his guitar skills. DJ has since learned to play the bass guitar and continues to practice his guitar playing skills on his own and picking up tricks from local guitarists. His public exposure and success took off when at age 13 he performed on stage at the Classic Country Music Reunion, “CCMR” held yearly in Trenton Ontario. Since that time he has continued to expand his fan base by performing at major Jamboree’s throughout the local area and also within Nashville and Florida. At the age of 14 while spending summer vacation in the United States with his Dad and his girlfriend Dawn who lives in Alpharetta Georgia he traveled to Nashville where he got an awesome opportunity to sing a song at a local bar on music row named “The Stage” and took in his first performance at the Grand Ole’ Opry. With his Dad living in Georgia and his Grandparents living part time in Florida DJ has had many opportunity’s to show off his talent within the United States. Just like most boys at the age 15 DJ’s voice had changed and he had surprised everyone when he took the stage in Zephyrhills Florida where he performed in front of his family and some local residents. Everyone was taken by his voice change and strong performance. In the summer of 2009 DJ and some of his fellow teenage friends formed a band called “Looking Back” where DJ sang and played bass guitar at Jamboree’s around the Ontario area. The other members in the band are Kaitlin Brant on lead guitar, Sarah Brant vocalist from the Trenton area and Chad Carmichael a local drummer from the Lindsay area. They launched their first self titled CD in the summer of 2010 at the Lindsay’s Jamboree which became a huge hit not only at the Lindsay Jamboree but all surrounding Jamborees within Ontario. During that same summer DJ also launched a compilation CD called “Growin’ Up” where he worked with Ron Lister, Doug Montgomery, John Lester and Chester McCann. This was DJ’s second complete solo CD which included 11 songs from some classic artists like Merle Haggard, Roger Miller and the late Keith Whitley. It continues to be a huge success at the local Jamborees within the Ontario area. Since DJ performed on stage his first time at the early age of 13 at the “CCMR” in Trenton Ontario he has performed a countless number of times in front of many large audiences including performances at “The Stage”, “Roberts Western World”, “The Nashville Palace” in Nashville and the “Orange Blossom Opry” in central Florida just to name a few. He currently attends Holy Cross High school in Peterborough and plans to move to Alpharetta GA in September 2011 where he will continue to work on obtaining his grade 12 diploma and pursue his career in Country music within the Georgia and Nashville area. DJ has demonstrated his leadership skills by playing quarterback on his junior high school football team where they have won the Junior AA C.O.S.S.A. (Central Ontario Secondary School Athletics) award 3 years in a row and also performing in the school band. Recently DJ has kept very busy during the winter months keeping up with his school work, performing in Nashville and also performing at various local venues within Ontario. This summer DJ is booked at many Jamborees within Ontario and also will be performing in Nashville June 11th and 12th 2011. The dates of all the venues that he will be performing will be available on his website at http://www.djrowatt.ca. Some of DJ’s heroes in Country music are Hank Williams Sr., Keith Whitley, and Merle Haggard but is also influenced by some recent performers such as Josh Turner, Brooks and Dunn, Brad Paisley and The Zac Brown Band. DJ is excited about what the future holds for him. He loves to perform, to connect and share stories with his audience but, as he will tell you, more than anything and above all else…DJ is a country music fan over and over. DJ is very excited to announce that he is currently working on a brand new solo CD with all new songs that will be released in 2012. DJ is a gifted individual that has the ability to learn new things quickly and fortunate to have huge support from his family that allows him to share his talent with others. DJ constantly challenges himself with learning how to play different musical instruments and performing new songs to become an artist in Country Music. DJ has many people to thank for his success but his main inspiration comes from his Grandfather Doug Montgomery who has been a large part of his success. Doug and John Lester together have mentored and exposed him to the enormous fans of classic country music and fellow Jamboree entertainers. DJ has a large following of fans that keeps growing every time he performs.
