“This boy is Chi to the core!!!” – Scottie B (the Godfather of Baltimore Club) Praised by rising stars such as Tittsworth, this early collaborator with Flosstradamus member Autobot, DJ Zebo is now spreading this schizophrenic dance and hip-hop genre bending style known as “Baltimore Club”. Through his touring, four Chicago residencies including Thursdays and Fridays at Evil Olive and Saturdays at Subterranean, strong production work and faultless mixes, Zebo has morphed into an eclectic, crowd-pleasing, multi-genre dance DJ. He’s opened up for such acts as: Kool Herc, Mixmaster Mike, Grandmaster Flash, Moby, Q-Bert and Spankrock among others. In 2007 his mix “My Style is Furious” was commissioned in conjuntion with the Spark’s company’s participation in the Detroit Electronic Music Festival, and quickly found popularity through the influential Discobelle music blog, downloaded via said sight 0ver 17,000 times. The same year Zebo was also interviewed by publications such as New City, Trash Menagerie, London’s Oh Death blog and made Chicago based Novem.com’s featured artist for September. His “Grown Mix” was also the first of the Mixes 2007 series on Spankrock’s Fullyfitted blog. Zebo was also voted Chicago’s #2 Favorite DJ for 2007 on local celebrity photo site Everyoneisfamous.com second only to fellow DJ comrades, Flosstradamus. “Zebo taught me how to spin and is by far the best all around DJ in the Chi!” – Autobot/Curtified of Flosstradamus. He was also hand selected as one of two exclusive DJs for Chicago’s Fashion Week, and made New City Magazine’s list of top 45 musicians that rock Chicago in May of 2008. While there are many hustling DJs in town, Chicago is lucky to have Zebo rocking the likes of… well, just about everywhere. A seemingly omnipresent figure around West Side clubs and lounges, Zebo packs a cut-up crateful of styles, from hip-hop and B-more to French eletro-disco and even a nasty snippet of a techno track or throwback freestyle gem. While this maximal approach might be increasingly common among DJs who cater to ADD-riddled mash-up club casualties, Zebo stays head-and shoulders above the rest for knowing that just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. Skills can be honed, but taste can’t be taught. Although he has launched his own label to put out mostly B-more-leaning beats, it is his skills as a DJ that draw the most water in this town. Zebo’s debut single, “We Likes,” released off of his own SES Records sold out in three days. This release has been repressed 3 times and has sold out each time via turntablelab.com and groovedistribution.com. “His track ‘We Likes’ is a regular in my sets. I love how everything comes together here – his background in break-work, a love for real hip-hop and even local house influence!” – Tittsworth. With a new track, “The Great Chicago Winter”, already in rotation and his own recent induction into the Urb Next 100 ranks, the sky is truly the limit for this genre-smashing artist!
