Domi Their message to you is simple: Stay Tuned; Stay sweet; Use the word Dingus.Based out of a recently christened Jersey City rehearsal space, Domi is a new project bent on reinvigorating rock for the iPod generation from beneath the shadows of lower Manhattan. Although vocalist Vinny Caruso and guitarist Pete Strzelecki crossed paths via an internet posting, the 21st century’s best analogue to the poorly Xeroxed, phone numbered tear-aways of the 90’s middle-American music store, their resultant music is more informed by the qualitative D.I.Y. ethos of that era than the quick-serve, post-alternative strategies it inspired and whose impact lingers industry-wide today. Backed by the established rhythm section of drummer Steve Zegray and bassist Pat Brennan, Domi have charged themselves with the formidable task of swinging rock’s balance of power back to that of music as art above commodity and form over function. Songwriting, arranging and recording, a true group effort performed completely in-house and coupled with all of the lessons learned through years of work in previous groups, has enabled a solid foundation for Domi to take shape within the scope of little more than a dozen shows in a year’s time. Still defining their sound, each member calls upon both personal and shared influences cut from a wide swathe of the musical spectrum, clearly drawing heavily on the alternative sound spiked with classic rock that defined the adolescence of their generation. In doing so Domi’s sound matures in its eclecticism and grows in its accessibility with each rehearsal in a style reflecting not just their own, but every generation’s reluctant ownership of a newly minted adulthood. Former kids in America, this is (rock) music you’d actually want to listen to; a novel idea whose arrival and implementation is horribly overdue.
