"An eclectic mix of rock, dance beats and fascinating lyrics mixed with a distinct Bowie-meets-Pavement sound...[Dubious Ranger] will surely make an impact not only on the band’s native Bay Area scene but nationally as well." -Today’s Modern Pop Dubious Ranger is a San Francisco-based indie rock band started by classical- piano prodigy Alexander Eccles, who was turned on to the magical sounds of rock and roll by the dulcet tones of one Mr. Ziggy Stardust. Recruiting his brother, Jon Eccles, and two members of Jon’s previous music project, Dr. Def and the Sexual Educators, the band has released three full-length albums and one EP. Dubious Ranger writes melodic, catchy art-rock hewn together with an everything- even-occasionally-the-kitchen-sink attitude; out of this sparkly cauldron come songs ranging from three perfect minutes of dance-punk bliss to epic acid-rock freakouts. Outside of the playing music, members of the band have worked at Digidesign (the company that makes the industry standard digital music production software Pro Tools--even though the band recorded its last album exclusively on old- school analog tape machines and consoles at John Vanderslice’s legendary Tiny Telephone studio), been music critics for media outlets like Crawdaddy, the San Francisco Bay Guardian, The Onion A.V. Club, Fuzz Media and Prefix Magazine, worked at legendary San Francisco music venues like the Great American Music Hall and Slim’s, and taught music to high school kids. These days, the band is keeping itself busy composing new songs, touring nationally, and keeping its fans satiated with a regular feed of demos, covers, popular artist remixes, and other delightful trinkets.
