Originally from Ladysmith, BC, Dylan Baker has lived on both sides of the tracks. A founding member of the band I'm Not Frank, Dylan, along with guitarist Mike Rogerson and bass vocalist Dustin Young started playing and writing songs at 15 years old. After winning their high school battle of the bands two years in a row, the boys, filled with dreams of stardom, decided to head to the big city for a shot at the big time. However, becoming rockstars proved to be a harder task than they had thought. After moving to Vancouver in 1995 at the tender age of 17, Dylan navigated the city streets working dead-end jobs and living in hotels on the downtown eastside. His only saving grace was to get free studio time to record his songs at Bakerstreet Studios with best friend, guitarist and sound engineer Mike Rogerson. Songs such as "One Too Many" chronicled the hard times and eastside junkies seen all too often in the downtown core of Vancouver, and "Bendable Daytime Schedule" told the story of couch surfing friends who partied nonstop. While working their dayjobs, I'm Not Frank worked the music scene and played gigs at bars like the Roxy, Railway Club and the Queens (Nanaimo). They also played festivals, house parties, coffee houses, open mics and even busked in Gastown on occasion. Then, in 2003, after over 5 years of playing the Vancouver music scene Dylan took some time off from the band to go to broadcasting school while Mike and Dustin continued to make music and tour with their friend Ryan McMahon. While going to school, Dylan continued to write and record songs on his Mac and occasionally played an open mic to keep up his live chops. Dylan graduated in 2005 and finally got a job, a News Editor at Citytv. Becoming a news editor greatly influenced his songwriting since he was flooded with tragic stories daily from the morbid fascination of the media. Stories of struggle, heartache and loss found their way into his songs after a long day's work. One song, titled "President" found it's way onto Neil Young's "Living With War" song page where songs of protest are featured, and charted in the top 300. In 2007, I'm Not Frank finally finished a 6-song ep that featured songs written over their 15 years as a band. They plan to do a cd release show in the near future. In 2008, Dylan sired a daughter with his wife Christine and now they live happily in East Vancouver.
