Philadelphia born, but Virginia raised hip-hop artist El Prezidino has been described by Serch (founder of Serchlite Music) as “a mixture of Kanye West and Jay-Z”. But even with such a high praise, this hip-hop and songwriting virtuoso has maintained a level head. Currently living in the Washington D.C. metro area, El Prezidino is poised to become the next hip-hop artist from this region to capture national acclaim and notoriety. Backed by his live band, M:O.R. (Music Over Recognition), El Prezidino doesn’t look, sound, or act like an artist that is currently “under the radar”. With energetic live shows that are comparable to buzzworthy indie rock bands, and the ability to tell a story in a way that is almost Shakespearean, you can see why many music fans and hip-hop taste-makers in the Washington D.C. area are beginning to eulogize that El Prezidino is one of the “next” artist to watch. El Prezidino is currently putting the finishing touches on a promotional album entitled, Almost Genius, Almost Crazy, as well as recording his first full length album to follow up his 2009 debut EP The Illness. The Illness (EP), released in March of 2009, gave El Prezidino his first major accomplishment as a recording artist, as it landed at #3 on the CMJ Hip-Hop ADDS chart. During the 2009 spring season, this album was featured in numerous Top Ten Charts at college radio stations across the country….as well as four colleges in Canada had The Illness (EP) in heavy rotation. With a series of shows in the Washington D.C. area in the works, and an east coast tour to kick off in fall 2010, Almost Genius, Almost Crazy could be the first step of a prodigious year for El Prezidino and his independent label 3Fingers Music Group. “I’ve always said that music is the weapon of the future, and though it’s taken me about 3 years, I think I’m finally creating music that is in-line with that statement,” declares the six foot four inch recording artist. “Urban music consumers have shown within the past two years that they won’t just settle for the same old music that has no substance, music that isn’t saying anything, or it’s saying too much of the wrong thing. I feel like my music is laced with a lot of integrity, artistry, and passion……and its vital to me and 3Fingers Music Group that music consumers realize that El Prezidino and 3FMG won’t pervert that artistry for the sake of a buck.” After years of developing his style, image, and enhancing his songwriting ability, El Prezidino formed 3FMG with his high school friend and music producer Eliezer “the EARchitect” Lee, and music producer Tony “T-ONE” Galloway. All three individuals are emphatic about making sure 3FMG becomes a record label that leaves its imprint on the world, not just the hearts and ears of urban music lovers. With this is mind, El Prezidino has long term goals of becoming a philanthropist, just as the likes of Bono from U2, Russell Simmons, and Bill Gates. “If you’re not going to use your fame to change the world in a positive way, then you don’t deserve it,” El Prezidino admonishes. El Prezidino, aka Demetrius Doss, has always seemingly been around the spot light, as he was first known for his athletic skills as a wide receiver at Marshall University where he played alongside Chad Pennington and Byron Leftwich. Even more impressive, is that while enrolled full-time as a student, and playing major college football, El Prezidino still found time to host a hip-hop radio show twice a week on WMUL-FM for nearly three years. With the impending release of Almost Genius, Almost Crazy, El Prezidino is looking to further catapult his career where 2009’s The Illness (EP) left off. With songs like “2010 Whip Appeal” (an exotic ode to Babyface’s 1989 song Whip Appeal), the politically charged “Burnt Water”, and “Mr. Misunderstood”, it’s clear that the songwriting ability of El Prezidino isn’t a common attribute of most hip-hop artists by any means. And with the national emergence of artists like Wale, and Tabi Bonney, El Prezidino is also hoping to turn the Washington D.C. region into the new hotbed of talent that the music industry flocks too, a la New York, L.A., Atlanta, Houston, etc.
