Biography Well before Grammy nominated rapper Young Jeezy proclaimed the words “you a fool for this one Speedy” on his underground hit “I Do This, off of the multi-platinum The Inspiration” Orangeburg, SC native DJ Speedy had already crafted some of hip-hop’s hottest records. However Jeezy’s verbal cosign helped catapult speedy into the next echelon of hip-hop producers. After producing music for Beyonce, Kelly Rowland, Nelly and Gucci Mane and many more, Speedy is donning another hat to go along with his accomplished DJ and production career. He is taking on the role of an artist. Performing under the pseudonym Harvey Miller, the DJ turned producer turned recording artist is using his experience working with artist as well as his ear for music to create his solo CD entitled Anomaly which will be fully produced by DJ Speedy. There is a long history of musicians going from behind the scenes to the spotlight with varying success but Speedy’s decision to step up to the microphone came from an unlikely inspiration. “I buy music like everybody else and over the years I found myself dissing the records I was buying so I had to take myself back to how I do beats,” says Speedy. “I wanted to put myself in rappers shoes to see how it feels to be judged and critiqued like I critique their music.” Speedy’s transition to Miller was not an easy one. He played around with recording and wrote songs here and there and got a lukewarm reaction from his team which prompted him to lock himself in the studio for two weeks to prove his worth as an artist. “I took a whole two weeks and I came in the studio and I really put my all into it and when I played what I had done people didn’t even believe it was me.” The fact that in such a short time Speedy could transform himself into an artist shouldn’t be much of a surprise to those that have followed his career. He’s been stellar at every level. As a DJ he served as the mix show DJ on the most popular mix show in the state of South Carolina where he broke records by several artists, most notably Nelly. After packing up and moving to Atlanta Speedy formed a production company called Speedy Productions with his cousin and went on to produce Big Gipp’s first solo hit “Steppin’ Out” as well as the bulk of Goodie Mobb’s fourth CD. Don’t expect Miller’s raps to directly reflect Speedy’s past hit records though. Miller’s songs are not steeped in the trap and the strip club; he is an all around artist. From the first single “You’re a Star” featuring Shawty Redd to the Seantre produced “All of Me” Miller is providing radio friendly hits that appeal to the hood as well as the suburbs. He even gives a little light to his alter ego on the off kilter “Gangsta Nerd” where Miller spits “In my shirt pocket I got a pocket protector/ and on my waistline I got a pocket protector/ If you got a question go ask your professor/ and if you run up on this nerd I’ll give a full clip lecture”. There has yet to be a producer from the south to make a successful transition from full time producer to rapper but DJ Speedy might be the one to break that glass ceiling. “I’m a true Aquarius, there is no one who can tell me what I can’t do,” says Miller. “Anything that I focus and put my mind to I can achieve it.” With a stubborn nature and immense talent the smart money is on DJ Speedy/Harvey Miller to make it happen.
